On the afternoon of April 17, 19 kindergartens in Phu Nhuan District, Ho Chi Minh City participated in a contest to make meals for children with the theme "Delicious dishes for kindergarten children". The contest was organized by the Department of Education and Training of Phu Nhuan District at Son Ca 10 Kindergarten.
Prepare lunch and snacks at a cost of 35,000 VND/child
Each kindergarten will form a team of 3 people: 1 member of the board of directors in charge of the boarding meals, 1 catering staff and 1 kitchen assistant. The teams will have 2 competitions: the knowledge competition is to create a boarding menu, a weekly nutritional ration for preschool children with a detailed description of the ingredients, preparation methods, etc.

In the practical competition, teams prepare meals for 10 preschool children for one day, including lunch and snacks, at a cost of 35,000 VND/child. This is the actual meal fee collected at preschools in Ho Chi Minh City today.
At the contest to make meals for preschool children, many spectators were surprised by the creativity of the preschool's management staff and catering staff.
Some schools prepare simple meals for boarding, while others prepare elaborate meals, but all are eye-catching to attract preschool students. Not only that, the meals must contain all the nutritional groups: protein, fat, starch and vitamins.

For example, Son Ca 2 Kindergarten has eel porridge with red beans and potatoes. "Previously, our school often cooked eel porridge with green beans and lotus seeds. However, students got bored of eating it all the time. Therefore, the school created a new dish that is both nutritious and unique so that the children can eat the whole portion" - Ms. Huynh Thi Bich Lien, vice principal of Son Ca 2 Kindergarten, said.
Similarly, Son Ca 5 Kindergarten has a dish of fried taro and shrimp. "Kindergarten children love fried foods and are reluctant to eat vegetables. Therefore, we created a new dish including taro, shrimp, corn, and carrots, rolled into balls, then rolled in flour and fried until golden brown.
Even the dipping sauce for this dish is homemade with tomatoes, butter and eggs. This is the dish that our students like the most at the moment" - Ms. Truong Thi Ngoc Thuy, vice principal of Son Ca 5 Kindergarten, shared.

The drinks were also changed by the teachers to make the students more interested in eating. At the festival, many delegates came to try the lotus seed milk of Son Ca 14 Kindergarten. Ms. Le Cam Linh, the school's principal, informed: "The children drink traditional milk every day and many children complain that they are bored with drinking milk. Therefore, we cook different types of nut milk to change the children's meals. In addition to corn milk and lotus seed milk, the school will soon cook sesame milk."
In Phu Nhuan district, all kindergartens have on-site canteens. From menu planning, purchasing ingredients to food preparation, everything is managed and directly carried out by the school.

As the only male judge at the contest, Mr. Ngo Giang Hoang Han, a parent of Son Ca 10 Kindergarten, commented: "I was very surprised to see that the dishes all had vegetables, tubers, fruits... which looked very beautiful because of the many colors. This is the reason why many children prefer to eat at school than at home. Today, witnessing the preparation of the boarding meals, I saw the care and meticulousness of the kindergarten's catering staff. Every day, they have to cook for 300 - 400 students, so how hard it is."
