During our field trips to Truong Son Commune, Quang Ninh District, Quang Binh Province, we heard many compliments from the people about the contributions of the officers and soldiers of Lang Mo Border Post to the changes in the border area.
In the stories, the ethnic people in the border communes with many difficulties shared that: The Border Guard participated in helping the Party cells and mass organizations in the villages and hamlets to operate in a disciplined manner, serving the people better. Along with that, the soldiers also contributed to building houses, roads, electricity lines, taking care of poor students going to school... In the people's minds, the officers and soldiers of Lang Mo Border Post truly deserve the title of Uncle Ho's soldiers.

Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Trung Dung, Political Commissar of Lang Mo Border Post, shared: “We identify the army and the people with the same will to firmly protect the border and build a more prosperous life for the people. On that basis, the officers and soldiers of the unit always strive to accompany the local government and forces to support the people in economic development, sustainable hunger eradication and poverty reduction. In the past time, the unit has had practical and effective ways of doing things, which have been recognized by the local government and the people.”
Through the conversation with the commander of Lang Mo Border Post, we better understood the unit's tasks in the past time. Accordingly, Lang Mo Border Post is assigned to protect and manage a nearly 44km long border section and take the lead in ensuring security and order in Truong Son commune with a large natural area (accounting for 2/3 of the total area of Quang Ninh district), a population of 1,238 households/5,374 people. The population is unevenly distributed in 19 villages and hamlets of the commune, most of whom are Bru - Van Kieu ethnic people, settled in remote border villages without national electricity grid. In general, people's lives in Truong Son commune still face many difficulties, awareness is uneven, and some villages still have backward customs and practices. Along with that, local people also face challenges such as being easily lured into participating in illegal trafficking and transportation of drugs, explosives, firecrackers, and forest products. The border area of Truong Son commune is also a key area for floods and landslides.

Based on the actual situation, Lang Mo Border Guard Station has closely coordinated with local Party committees and authorities to strengthen the grassroots political system. Currently, there is 1 Lang Mo Border Guard Station officer participating in the commune-level Party committee, 8 party members participating in village party cell activities, and 24 party members in charge of 133 households in the area.
In each position, the Party members of Lang Mo Border Post have promoted their roles and responsibilities in consolidating the Party Committee, Party cells, and supporting the people in all aspects. One of the bright spots of Lang Mo Border Post is helping people develop the economy and reduce poverty. In recent years, the unit has called for socialized resources to support people with 26 tractors and milling machines; built 45 livelihood models to develop household economies; built 16 "Border Light" projects in border villages with a length of 16.2 km; connected to build 7 clean water projects, 22 houses for families in difficult circumstances... Officers and soldiers of the unit have deducted their salary and allowance funds to sponsor 6 children in the program "Helping children go to school - Adopted children of the Border Post".

The specific actions of the Border Guard soldiers have been recognized and admired by the people. “Over the past time, the officers and soldiers of Lang Mo Border Guard Station have had many good ways to support and change the lives of the people. They have been present to rescue people during floods and landslides, provided seeds and seedlings, and guided people in the villages to develop the economy and reduce poverty. The people in the area love Uncle Ho's soldiers very much,” said Mr. Hoang Van Dung, Party Cell Secretary and Head of Trung Son Village, Truong Son Commune.
In an effort to help people improve their lives and affirm their trust in ethnic minorities, Lang Mo Border Guard Station has mobilized people to protect the border. In the whole commune, 19 groups/95 members have registered to participate in self-management of security and order; 10 groups/286 households have registered to participate in self-management of border lines and national border markers. The people themselves have provided Lang Mo Border Guard Station with many important sources of information to serve the fight against crime and law violations.
