Our province currently has more than 200 advantageous agricultural products with high economic and commercial value, which can be developed into OCOP products, products with regional characteristics that are quite rich in variety, including 5 main groups: Food; beverages; herbs; souvenirs; services, rural tourism.

Exploiting the available potential advantages, Son La province has focused on developing products under the OCOP Program, in which, closely following the objectives: Developing forms of production organization, trading of advantageous products and services in communes, wards and towns; effectively implementing the criteria group "Economy and forms of production organization" in the National Criteria Set on new rural construction. Localities have promoted the construction of linkage chains, contributing to changing people's production thinking from small-scale, fragmented to large-scale, high-economic value commodity production; from individual household economy to cooperative model (HTX) linked according to the industry value chain.

Previously, the Hoa Xuan dried buffalo meat production and trading facility in Son La city had many difficulties in finding outlets for its products. Customers were still hesitant about the quality due to the lack of specific evidence of the production process. The important turning point came when the facility participated in the province's OCOP Program in 2019, and the facility's dried meat products achieved 4-star OCOP certification, helping to enhance the brand's reputation. The facility was supported with packaging, promotion and consumption connections nationwide, contributing to significantly increasing revenue each year. Mr. Tong Ngoc Hoa, owner of Hoa Xuan facility, shared: The process of producing dried meat requires high standards, but previously customers did not trust it due to a lack of transparent information. When achieving OCOP certification, our products were better received by customers, and the consumption volume of the following year was always higher than the previous year.

Similarly, in Co Do ward, Moc Chau town, many people know about Kien Son vermicelli brand when it was born and certified as a 4-star OCOP product. This has gradually increased the value of the local traditional vermicelli product.

Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Kien, Deputy Director of Kien Son Company Limited, shared:   After receiving support from the State to participate in the OCOP Program, we have strictly implemented quality control procedures and food safety. At the same time, we have focused on improving the production line and production methods. We have linked up with local cassava growers to provide clean raw materials. During the preliminary processing, we strictly follow ISO standards, so the quality of the vermicelli is always guaranteed.

After more than 5 years of implementation, the whole province has 202 OCOP products, including 1 5-star product, 62 4-star products and 139 3-star products. The common point of cooperatives and enterprises when building OCOP products is that they are proactive in changing production thinking, innovating science and technology to improve product quality; promoting and consuming products through digital platforms. Many products are available at a number of supermarket chains and agents, retail stores in the market inside and outside the province.

By 2025, the province strives to have 30 or more products evaluated and classified as OCOP products meeting 3-star standards or higher. Mr. Ha Nhu Hue, Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, said: To improve the efficiency and value of OCOP products, the province continues to direct departments, branches, and localities to guide and support entities to focus on perfecting and upgrading products with strengths of each locality and developing newly registered products. Support the development of products based on the application of small and medium-scale preliminary processing and processing technology, in which priority is given to processed and deeply processed products from local specialties and raw materials.

At the same time, orient OCOP subjects to create differences, increase product value, diversify product sizes and designs to suit consumer tastes and needs; ensure raw material areas, input material quality, traceability; maintain and proactively update annual regulations, such as: Food safety qualification certification, barcodes, periodic testing of food safety indicators...

Son La is striving to build sustainable OCOP products, ensuring both quality and quantity, contributing to further enhancing the value of the province's typical products, improving people's income, promoting the advantages of available raw material areas, contributing to local socio-economic development.
