Saigon Co.op announces raw material area planning

On September 24, the Ho Chi Minh City Union of Trading Cooperatives (Saigon Co.op) held the "Announcement Ceremony of Saigon Co.op Product Raw Material Area Planning".

Saigon Co.op is a pioneer distributor in building and implementing a strategy for planning raw material areas, contributing to creating a retail ecosystem that both supports localities and connects manufacturers, building a safe food supply system, contributing to sustainable development and protecting consumer health.

Attending the ceremony were representatives of the Ministries of Industry and Trade of the South, Agriculture and Rural Development; leaders of the Departments and branches of Ho Chi Minh City and a number of other provinces and cities with areas and products planned by Saigon Co.op, aiming to develop raw material areas in phase 1 and phase 2 (Ho Chi Minh City, Tien Giang, Dong Thap, Tay Ninh, Binh Duong, Lam Dong, Dak Nong, Ben Tre, Long An, Binh Thuan, Son La).

Within the framework of the program, Saigon Co.op signed a memorandum of understanding with Dure Cosumer's Cooperative Union (Korea) on cooperation in importing and exporting goods from Vietnam to Korea; exchanging experiences in retail operations and activities to promote the cooperative movement in the two countries.

Saigon Co.op has signed a memorandum of understanding with 17 suppliers from 6 provinces and cities (HCMC, Binh Duong, Tay Ninh, Lam Dong, Dong Thap, Tien Giang), marking the completion of phase 1 of the program "Saigon Co.op product material area planning". These are business partners producing and cultivating Vietnamese agricultural products such as green-skinned grapefruit, mango, banana, melon, dragon fruit, white cabbage, tomato, carrot, lettuce, cucumber, etc.

The planning process of Saigon Co.op's raw material areas is expected to last until the end of 2025, divided into phases 2 and 3, in the remaining provinces and cities nationwide. In addition, Saigon Co.op supports capital for production and product consumption for 5 suppliers, which are cooperatives and local raw material suppliers specializing in safe vegetable products such as cucumbers, beef tomatoes, white cabbage, etc.

Moreover, this is a key factor to help distributors ensure a stable supply source”.

Mr. Nguyen Nguyen Phuong - Deputy Director of the Department of Industry and Trade of Ho Chi Minh City affirmed: "Ho Chi Minh City has abundant potential and conditions to develop sustainable raw material areas. With the determination and efforts of the city government, businesses and the community, I believe that we will build high-quality raw material areas, contributing to promoting economic development and improving people's lives".
