Domestic coffee prices set new record
In the Central Highlands region, domestic coffee prices at 5:00 a.m. on March 6, 2025 increased from VND 2,000 - 2,700/kg, raising the average price to VND 135,000/kg.
In detail, in localities, coffee prices in Dak Lak reached 135,000 VND/kg, Lam Dong at 133,700 VND/kg, Gia Lai recorded 134,800 VND/kg, and Dak Nong had a price of 135,000 VND/kg.
The highest price ever recorded in the domestic coffee market was on April 30, 2024 at VND 134,400/kg. Today, coffee prices have set a new peak at VND 135,000/kg in Dak Lak and Dak Nong.
The main reason for the sharp increase in coffee prices is the decrease in supply due to adverse weather conditions, while consumption demand continues to increase. In addition, factors such as financial speculation, escalating production costs and trade policies also contribute to the high prices.
Consumers were clearly affected when retail and in-store coffee prices increased simultaneously, causing a segment of customers to switch to cheaper alternatives such as tea or instant coffee.
For farmers, rising prices have improved their incomes, but high production costs have squeezed real profits. Furthermore, changing climate conditions and high investment costs are preventing new plantings from expanding, limiting future supply.
Pepper prices continue to rise
Domestic pepper prices at 5:00 a.m. on March 6, 2025 continued to increase compared to yesterday, but there was a difference between regions. Currently, the average price of pepper in key regions is 159,100 VND/kg.
In Gia Lai, pepper prices increased by VND1,000, currently reaching VND158,000/kg. In Dak Lak, pepper prices increased by VND1,300/kg, raising the purchasing price to VND160,500/kg. Dak Nong recorded the highest increase of VND1,800/kg, pushing the price to VND161,000/kg, the highest in the country.

World pepper market developments
According to the International Pepper Community (IPC), the world pepper market maintained its upward trend compared to the previous day. In Indonesia, pepper prices continued to increase from 32 to 45 USD/ton.
Currently, the price of Indonesian Lampung black pepper is 7,360 USD/ton (up 32 USD/ton), while Muntok white pepper is priced at 10,220 USD/ton (up 45 USD/ton).
The Malaysian market remained stable, with ASTA black pepper purchased at $9,700/ton, while ASTA white pepper was priced at $12,200/ton.
In Brazil, pepper prices after the previous increase are now flat at $6,850/ton.
For the Vietnamese export market, pepper prices remained stable but tended to decrease slightly. Specifically, the price of 500 g/l black pepper reached 6,900 USD/ton, 550 g/l was priced at 7,100 USD/ton, and white pepper remained at 9,900 USD/ton.
The main reason for the sharp increase in pepper prices is the decrease in global supply while demand in the US, Europe and China remains high. Farmers have switched to growing higher value crops such as coffee and durian in the past 10 years, which has also reduced pepper production.
Although pepper prices are attractive, experts recommend against massive expansion of acreage. Instead, the pepper industry needs to focus on improving product quality, promoting organic farming, controlling diseases, and strengthening cooperation with businesses. These are important factors for sustainable pepper industry development and minimizing future risks.
