Cakes, jams, and Tet decorations... are crowded with customers.
At noon on January 28, customers flocked to Hai Thuong Lan Ong Street (District 5) and Thap Muoi Street (District 6) to choose Tet decorations. “The prices here are reasonable, the products are diverse, and easy to choose. The pair of dragon mascots decorated with gold sequins and lucky charms sold in this area are always 30,000-70,000 VND cheaper than the stores outside,” said Nguyen Van Lam, a resident of Binh Tan District.
The atmosphere of buying and selling at the market is also bustling... Employees of Truong Muoi and Vinh Mai stores (An Dong market) are always on hand to get goods for customers. At Binh Tay market (district 6), the number of customers buying goods is much higher than usual. Items such as shredded squid priced at 280,000 VND/kg, beef jerky, pumpkin seeds at 140,000 VND/kg, sunflower seeds at 90,000 VND/kg, yellow cashew nuts at 260,000 VND/kg, silk cashew nuts at 220,000 VND/kg... attract customers.
Ms. Ngoc Lan, owner of a store specializing in jams, candies, and dried goods in Binh Chanh district, shared that on January 28 and 29, she bought about 100kg more goods from Binh Tay market to sell to retail customers via Zalo and Facebook. The purchasing power during this time increased 2-3 times and was beyond expectations. Maybe this year, more people are staying in Ho Chi Minh City, so the amount of goods consumed is high.
