On the afternoon of January 22, within the framework of his official visit to Romania, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh met with Romanian President Klaus Iohannis.

Romania, Vietnam respect each other

At the meeting, Romanian President Klaus Iohannis was pleased to meet Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh again after two meetings at the ASEAN - EU Summit in December 2022 and the United Nations General Assembly in September 2023. He highly appreciated Vietnam's role in the Asia - Pacific region, affirming that Romania always considers Vietnam the most important partner in Southeast Asia and wishes to develop cooperative relations with Vietnam in all fields. Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh expressed his pleasure to return to visit Romania, where he has been attached for many years of studying and working, and thanked the Romanian leaders and people for the warm and respectful welcome given to the delegation. Vietnam always attaches importance to and wishes to strengthen relations with traditional friends in the Central and Eastern European region, of which Romania is a priority partner. Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh respectfully conveyed the regards of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and the invitation to visit Vietnam of President Vo Van Thuong to President Klaus Iohannis.

At the meeting, the two leaders expressed their delight at the positive developments in bilateral relations in many fields. The two sides agreed to continue to increase delegation exchanges at all levels through all channels of the Party, State, Government, National Assembly and people-to-people diplomacy. President Klaus Iohannis affirmed his wish to visit Vietnam soon to continue maintaining dialogue between the two countries' senior leaders. In the coming time, the two leaders agreed to continue implementing existing economic cooperation mechanisms, encouraging Romanian enterprises to increase investment in Vietnam, especially in areas where Romania has strengths such as information technology, petrochemical refining, food processing, renewable energy, etc. President Klaus Iohannis suggested that the two sides closely coordinate to implement the agreements reached during Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh's visit. The two sides also need to make the most of the potential and space to further promote cooperation between the two countries in the fields of education - training, labor, culture - tourism and people-to-people exchange. Discussing current hot spots in the world, the two leaders agreed that all disputes and conflicts need to be resolved by peaceful means, without using force or threatening to use force, in accordance with international law.

Romania urged to lobby EU countries to ratify EVIPA

The two sides expressed their delight at the positive developments in bilateral relations in many important areas, agreeing that the bilateral relationship still has much potential and room for development. In that spirit, the two sides agreed to increase the exchange of delegations at all levels, especially at high levels, through all Party, State and National Assembly channels to enhance political trust and agree on measures to promote bilateral relations. Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh affirmed that Vietnam wishes to cooperate and share experiences in the fields of legislation and supreme supervision. He asked the National Assemblies of the two countries to support the promotion of cooperation agreements reached between the two governments, especially in economics, trade and investment. The President of the Romanian House of Representatives agreed that both sides need to effectively promote the mechanism of the Intergovernmental Committee on Economic Cooperation between the two countries, and continue to fully implement the Vietnam - EU Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA). On this occasion, the Prime Minister asked the Romanian House of Representatives to continue supporting the parliaments of other EU member states to soon ratify the EVIPA, and support the EC to remove the IUU yellow card for Vietnam's seafood industry.
