(BLC) – To protect and develop forests, the Party Committee, government and people of Nam Cuoi commune (Sin Ho district) have implemented many solutions to protect and combat destructive acts, contributing to increasing the local forest area.
At the beginning of the dry season this year, a fire broke out in the forest area of Nam Co village when Mr. Sung A Sau (Nam Co village) went to burn the fields to prepare for a new crop. Immediately after receiving the information, the commune sent forces to work with the villagers to respond, preventing the fire from spreading into the forest. The fire was controlled, causing no damage to the forest. The cause was determined to be that the villagers burned the fields without reporting to the village and commune, and were careless in using fire. After assessing the extent of the damage, Mr. Sau was fined 2.5 million VND. Strictly handling the right person for the right crime has contributed to deterring illegal forest encroachment. Thanks to that, the number of fires, exploitation of forests and forest products in the area in recent times has decreased significantly compared to before.
Forest rangers of Sin Ho district propagate the Forestry Law to people of Nam Cuoi commune.
Realizing that the main reason is due to limited awareness of the people, the commune has stepped up propaganda work, helping people understand the role of forests. They go to each village, meet each person to propagate the Forestry Law, analyze the benefits and harms of having and losing forests, and propose penalties that the law handles to educate and deter. Mobilize people to plant new forests, protect and protect them to benefit from the payment for forest environmental services. In addition to propaganda, the commune organizes drills on forest fire prevention and fighting, sets up hypothetical situations so that people know how to handle incidents when they occur. In addition, the commune promotes economic development, helping people have a stable life.
Mr. Lu Van On (Tan Lap village) said: In the past, without economic conditions, we often went into the forest to cut wood, hunt animals to build houses, and serve daily meals. Many times, we even burned the forest to clear the area to grow corn and cassava. When the rainy season came, landslides and flash floods occurred, and everything we produced was lost. Thanks to the propaganda of the commune officials and district forest rangers, we knew that forests are very important and directly affect our lives, so everyone actively protected and developed forests, detected and immediately handled crimes. As the head of the specialized team in charge of forest protection and fire prevention in the village, I and the members of the team patrolled, controlled, and reminded people to be aware of forest protection.
... regularly patrol and control forest areas.
Realizing the importance and benefits of forests, people in 9 villages of the commune actively protect and cover bare hills with green land to increase forest area and in the period 2020-2023, 319.63 hectares of new forests were planted. Now, when economic conditions develop, people no longer go into the forest to cut wood to build houses but buy licensed wood or use alternative materials: cement, steel to build stilt houses, both without losing traditional identity and preserving the forest.
In the villages, there are always specialized teams for forest protection and fire prevention (from 15 to 20 people). The teams regularly coordinate with commune forest rangers to patrol and promptly prevent acts of sabotage. Especially during the dry season, patrols and controls take place regularly. Each time on patrol, members observe the terrain, classify areas at risk of fire, and make plans and solutions. Therefore, since the beginning of the year, there have only been 4 fires in the commune and they have been handled promptly. The forests are growing well, and each year, the whole commune benefits from nearly 1.4 billion VND in forest environmental service payments.
Forest rangers of Sin Ho district and people of Nam Cuoi commune clear vegetation.
Currently, the commune's forest area is 2,514.08 hectares (of which, protective forest is 1,840.08 hectares, production forest is 673.97 hectares), the coverage rate is 37.77%. Mr. Lu Van Tuyen - Chairman of Nam Cuoi Commune People's Committee commented: In the coming time, the commune will continue to promote propaganda and mobilize people to actively plant forests to cover bare land; fight and strictly handle acts of sabotage to protect the green color of the forest.
