Developing reading culture from the model "Library and farmers get rich"

DTO - In recent times, the Provincial Library has focused on building information resources, innovating spaces and forms of service for readers, and implementing many programs and models to meet the needs of readers of all ages and backgrounds, in order to spread reading culture in the community, and promote local socio-economic development.

According to the Provincial Library, in 2024, the unit collected and added more than 12,600 books on various topics, coordinated with social mobilization to donate 48 Learning Promotion Bookcases with nearly 5,900 books, totaling 480 million VND. In addition, nearly 100 activities were organized to display, exhibit, arrange art books, thematic activities, book competitions; Mobile library trips, document rotations... suitable to the conditions of units and localities. Thereby, serving about 862,900 people (reaching 143.8% of the plan) and more than 1.5 million documents (reaching 128.2% of the plan).

Notably, the Provincial Library effectively implemented the model "Library and Farmers Get Rich", actively contributing to the development of reading culture combined with the task of local socio-economic development. The model "Library and Farmers Get Rich" was implemented in conjunction with projects such as: developing reading culture, restructuring the agricultural sector, and building local image. The model "Library and Farmers Get Rich" provided information and connected experts to support farmers, members of the Association, specialized students, and people interested in the agricultural sector, especially the application of scientific and technological advances and new techniques in agricultural production in the province.

In 2022, the Provincial Library received more than 1,000 copies of books from the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Le Minh Hoan (now Vice Chairman of the National Assembly), the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (now the Department of Agriculture and Environment) and many individuals and units. From the supported books, the Provincial Library launched the Agriculture - Tourism Reading Room at the Provincial Library. To date, the Agriculture - Tourism Reading Room has equipped more than 5,000 copies of books and scientific journals on agriculture, tourism, and digital transformation of the agricultural sector, becoming a place for study and research for the majority of students majoring in Dong Thap University, Dong Thap Community College and readers who love agriculture and tourism.

At the Agricultural - Tourism Reading Room, in addition to providing documents, the Provincial Library regularly connects with experts to organize specialized activities for readers such as: "Trends of agricultural development in Vietnam", "The role of books and effective reading methods in agricultural activities", "Health care from medicinal plants", "Environment and Agriculture in Dong Thap", "Fish security in Dong Thap", "Reading books with Sen" ... attracting a large number of readers to participate.

In addition, the Provincial Library also established a Readers' Club specializing in agriculture and organized regular activities with reading, interaction, experience, and practice from books such as: reading and appreciating books, reading and solving crossword puzzles, experiencing planting medicinal plant gardens, practicing separating lotus silk; enjoying lotus tea - learning about tea processing techniques - tea culture...

In parallel with serving readers to the library, the model “Library and Farmers Get Rich” is implemented through the form of Mobile Library. Mobile library combines thematic document service, reading activities and connecting experts in the fields of agriculture, agricultural tourism, and agricultural product management.

Up to now, the Provincial Library has organized 9 service trips to the Associations with topics such as: "My Mango Tree E-commerce", "Developing green agriculture - building sustainable rural areas", "Economically effective eel farming models", "Techniques for planting and caring for Ruby guava, organic vegetable cultivation", "Methods for preventing and treating diseases on fish - crispy carp" ... which are highly appreciated by farmers in districts and cities. The model "Library and farmers get rich" also selects documents suitable to the needs of each Association to give and circulate, in order to serve members in the long term, support older readers who live far from the library to access information for the production and business process ...
