Hojlund celebrates like Ronaldo.

After scoring for Denmark in a 1-0 win over Portugal in the first leg of the UEFA Nations League quarter-finals on March 21, Hojlund sparked controversy, celebrating for Siu as soon as Cristiano Ronaldo was on the pitch.

On his personal page, Hojlund also reposted the celebration photo with the caption: "The 7-year-old inside me wants to raise my arms high after scoring."

Hojlund's post was supported by eight of his Manchester United teammates, including Harry Amass, Leny Yoro, Altay Bayindir, Patrick Dorgu, Chido Obi, Joshua Zirkzee, Ethan Wheatley and Matthijs de Ligt. Hojlund also explained after the match that the celebration was not meant to mock Ronaldo but simply to show respect for his idol.

"I did it for my idol. I'm not mocking him, I just want to say that Ronaldo is very important and has a huge influence on my career," the player born in 2003 shared.

After a 21-game scoreless streak, Hojlund has relieved the pressure by scoring in his last two appearances. Confidence is gradually returning to the striker who scored 15 goals for Man Utd in the 2023/24 season. The 22-year-old striker is preparing with the Danish national team for the rematch with Portugal on March 24. Just a draw will take the "Tin Soldiers" to the semi-finals.

Meanwhile, Ronaldo expressed his determination to turn the situation around in the 90 minutes at home. The 40-year-old superstar is eager to win more titles in the final years of his career.
