Continue to mobilize and effectively use social security funds
Head of the Propaganda and External Relations Department of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee Nguyen Thi Dieu Huong said: Responding to the emulation movement "For the poor - No one is left behind" for the period 2021-2025 launched by the Prime Minister; with the desire to create more resources with all levels and sectors to help the poor, contributing to the completion of the city's poverty reduction and social security goals, the People's Committee - Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Hanoi will coordinate to organize the Launching Ceremony of the Peak Month "For the poor" and social security in 2024.
The program took place at 7:30 p.m. on October 16, 2024 at the Vietnam-Soviet Friendship Cultural Palace (91 Tran Hung Dao, Hoan Kiem, Hanoi) with the following contents: Launching the peak month "For the poor" and social security in 2024; announcing the completion of 714 great solidarity houses to complete the Program to eliminate degraded housing for poor and near-poor households in the city in 2024; receiving support from the City's "For the poor" Fund; providing support to overcome the consequences of storms and floods in the city, including 29 newly built houses and 251 repaired houses from the "Relief" Fund with a total amount of 13 billion 355 million VND; providing livelihood support to poor households (95 motorbikes, 54 cows, 13 sewing machines, 1 rice threshing machine) from the "For the poor" Fund with a total value of 3 billion 140 million VND; Commendation of 16 outstanding collectives with many contributions to poverty reduction and social security in 2023.
Regarding the results of the city's social security work, according to Ms. Nguyen Thi Dieu Huong, in 2024, along with the city's support policies, the City's Fatherland Front at all levels continued to mobilize and effectively use social security funds and the "For Vietnam's Sea and Islands" Fund. The City's "Relief" Fund has allocated 112.49 billion VND to support families of victims who died due to fires, natural disasters, and serious incidents occurring in the area as well as people in provinces affected by storms No. 2 and No. 3 and floods. As of October 10, 2024, the Fund has received more than 250 billion VND, regularly publicizing the list of donations from benefactors, organizations, and individuals through bank accounts on the communication channels of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of the City.
From the resources received, the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of the City promptly supported 23 provinces, cities and 930 students studying in Hanoi whose families were in the affected provinces with a total amount of 83.99 billion VND and essential goods worth 1.73 billion VND; supported the people of the Capital with 15.9 billion VND of essential goods and deployed support to build 29 houses, repair 251 houses damaged by storms and floods with a total amount of 13.355 billion VND. With the spirit of "mutual love", during the days of storms and floods, many models appeared in localities.
With the spirit of "Hanoi for the whole country, Hanoi with the whole country", the Party Committee, government and people of the capital have also supported 15 provinces and cities to build 7,140 solidarity houses worth more than 317 billion VND, practically responding to the call "The whole country joins hands to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses nationwide from now until 2025" launched by the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front. The "For Vietnam's seas and islands" fund annually receives support of 50-60 billion VND, affirming the sentiment and responsibility of the Party Committee, government and people of the capital, regardless of the circumstances, always turning towards Truong Sa with practical actions.
Focus on supporting housing and providing livelihoods to help escape poverty sustainably
Speaking at the press conference, Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Hanoi Pham Anh Tuan said that continuing to effectively implement the two key areas of supporting housing and providing livelihoods to help people escape poverty sustainably, in 2024, Hanoi proactively set a goal of eliminating 100% of dilapidated houses for poor and near-poor households in the area. To implement this policy, the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Hanoi and the City People's Committee signed a joint plan to support the construction and repair of dilapidated houses for poor and near-poor households in Hanoi. As of September 30, 714/714 solidarity houses had completed construction and repair (100%). On the evening of October 16, 2024, at the Launching Ceremony, the Organizing Committee will announce this content.
This year, the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of the City identified the implementation of eliminating dilapidated and degraded houses for poor and near-poor households as a matter of special concern. Since then, the entire political system has been involved, the Fatherland Front at all levels has actively implemented the construction and repair of solidarity houses and supported livelihoods and means of production for poor and near-poor households (breeding cows, sewing machines, motorbikes, agricultural production equipment, etc.). The Fund has helped localities have more resources to implement support for the poor.
However, according to the results of the multidimensional poverty standard review for the period 2022-2025, by the end of 2023, Hanoi still has 690 poor households, accounting for 0.03% and 15,835 near-poor households, accounting for 0.7%, so it continues to need the cooperation, sharing and help of agencies, organizations, businesses and philanthropists.
“Hanoi strives to complete the goal of eliminating 690 poor households and minimizing near-poor households by the end of 2024; at the same time, eliminate degraded houses, create livelihoods, support health insurance books or voluntary social insurance books to help households meet the criteria to escape poverty. With the determination of the entire political system and the people of the capital, the goal of eliminating poor and near-poor households will certainly be achieved. To date, 18 districts have no poor households and 3 districts have no poor households - an important result of the Party committees and authorities in implementing Program No. 08-CTr/TU of the City Party Committee" - Mr. Pham Anh Tuan emphasized.
According to the Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of the City, the peak month "For the Poor" in 2024 (taking place from October 17 to November 17) is an opportunity for each agency, organization, unit, enterprise, and people to demonstrate the "Spirit of mutual love and affection" through practical and specific actions to share and support the poor and people in difficult circumstances; join hands to realize the goal of supporting housing for poor and near-poor households; provide livelihoods, create social security support, help the poor have the opportunity to change their lives and have a better life. This is a practical action contributing to realizing the goals of poverty reduction, building new rural areas, civilized urban areas and Program No. 08-CTr/TU of the City Party Committee.
The People's Committee - Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of the City calls on agencies, organizations, units, enterprises, and all classes of people in the Capital to promote the tradition of solidarity and the good spirit of "Mutual love and support" of the nation, actively join hands to help the poor and participate in supporting the City's "For the Poor" Fund in 2024. All support will be announced at the Launching Ceremony of the Peak Month "For the Poor" and Social Security of the City in 2024 .
