Kinhtedothi - Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee (VFF) of Hanoi City hopes that the Vietnamese community in Brazil will continue to be an important bridge for Vietnam - Brazil relations, proactively making practical and effective contributions to the cause of building and developing the country and the capital.
Within the framework of the People's Foreign Affairs Program in 2024, from November 25 to 2, 2024, the Hanoi City Delegation led by Member of the Standing Committee of the City Party Committee, Chairwoman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee (VFF) of the City Nguyen Lan Huong visited Lapa neighborhood (Rio de Janeiro City, Brazil).
This neighborhood is where President Ho Chi Minh worked to learn about the lives and struggles of Brazilian workers and sailors for 6 months (in 1912). At that time, he was 22 years old, and went on an international ship, on a voyage to find a way to save the country, to Rio de Janeiro. He lived and worked for half a year, immersing himself in the lives of Brazilian workers and laborers.
Vietnamese Ambassador to Brazil Bui Van Nghi said that in the near future, the Rio de Janeiro City government will propose to organize some forms of commemoration and memorialization of President Ho Chi Minh's journey at Lapa Square (Arcos da Lapa) - a famous square in Rio de Janeiro City and name a street after Vietnam.
During the working trip, the delegation met with the family of Mr. Nguyen Van Nghia - an overseas Vietnamese living and working in Rio de Janeiro. Mr. Nghia's family was very moved to welcome the delegation and expressed their joy at the development of the capital Hanoi and the whole country.
He also informed the delegation about the situation of Vietnamese people in Brazil in general and in Rio de Janeiro in particular. Currently, the Vietnamese community in Brazil has about 200 people, concentrated in São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro. They are very united, love each other, always turn to their homeland; are always ready to support domestic movements and campaigns and always have faith in the development of the country.
At the meeting, Ms. Nguyen Lan Huong informed about the socio-economic situation of the capital, and highly appreciated the efforts of the Vietnamese community in Brazil in stabilizing their lives and integrating well into the host society.
From there, the Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Hanoi hopes that Mr. Nghia's family and the people will continue to promote the spirit of mutual love, uphold national pride, solidarity, help each other overcome difficulties; strive to rise up, actively integrate, comply with the law and contribute to the development of the host country. In particular, continue to be an important bridge for the relationship between Vietnam and Brazil; always look towards the homeland and the country; proactively make more practical and effective contributions to the cause of building and developing the country and the capital.
