In posts on the social network Truth Social on April 18, former President Trump commented on the issue of aid to Ukraine.

"Why doesn't Europe give more money to help Ukraine? Why does the US spend $100 billion more on the war in Ukraine than Europe?" Trump wrote, comparing the gap to "an ocean".
"Everyone agrees that the survival and strength of Ukraine should be more important to Europe than to us, but it is also important to us. Go Europe," Mr. Trump called.
Although the article was mainly a complaint against Europe, it appeared to be one of Mr. Trump's first acknowledgements that Ukraine's survival was important to US security interests, according to Reuters.
The new statement comes as the House of Representatives, controlled by Mr Trump’s Republican Party, prepares to vote on a $61 billion aid package for Ukraine. House Speaker Mike Johnson announced that the bill will be voted on as early as April 20 despite opposition from the right wing of his party.
Mr Trump has not publicly supported the bill, while some hard-line members of his party have interpreted the article as a signal that the former president opposes the aid.
A day earlier, Mr Trump met with Polish President Andrzej Duda in New York and praised Warsaw. The two are said to have discussed Mr Duda’s proposal for NATO members to spend at least 3% of their gross domestic product (GDP) on defense, up from the current minimum of 2%.
