According to Khmer Times, the royal decree signed by the King on the morning of August 7 stated that King Norodom Sihamoni "appointed Dr. Hun Manet as Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia for the 7th National Assembly", making him the successor of Mr. Hun Sen.

According to the decree, the new Prime Minister is responsible for forming a new Cambodian government for the National Assembly to vote of confidence.
Previously, the Cambodian People's Party (CPP) won an overwhelming victory in the national election last July with more than 82% of the vote, higher than the nearly 77% in the 2018 election.
Dr. Hun Manet, Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces and Commander of the Royal Cambodian Army, has received the support of the CPP as the future Prime Minister.
Dr. Hun Manet was born on October 20, 1977 in Koh Thmar village, Memut district, Kampong Cham province (now Thbong Khmum province). He graduated from the United States Military Academy at West Point in 1999 and is known as the first Cambodian to graduate from this prestigious academy.
He also holds a Master's degree in Economics from New York University (USA) and a PhD in the same field from the University of Bristol (UK).
Although he rarely appears on the international stage and rarely gives interviews, Hun Manet is active on social media. In a video he posted on Facebook on July 7, the politician expressed his commitment to working to protect lives, raise the country’s international status and improve the living standards of his people.
His father, former Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen, said on August 3 that the 82% voter turnout for the CPP in last month's general election showed they trusted the CPP and chose Hun Manet as their successor.
