On the afternoon of January 16, the Tien Giang Provincial Cooperative Union (TCO) held a conference to review the situation of collective economic development (KTTT) and cooperatives in 2024 and deploy directions and tasks for 2025. In 2024, under the leadership of the Provincial Party Committee, the Provincial People's Committee and the efforts of all levels and sectors, the socio-economic development of Tien Giang province has developed well, in which the collective economic sector continues to affirm its important role in supporting rural development, improving people's lives and contributing to building a solid economic foundation. Cooperatives are constantly growing in quantity, the quality of operations is improved, and the model of production linkage according to the value chain is increasingly popular.
The province currently has 276 cooperatives operating in the fields of agriculture, aquaculture, handicrafts, trade - services, transportation and credit with more than 93,000 members, creating jobs for more than 33,000 workers with an average income of more than 80 million VND/person/year. During the year, 09 cooperatives were established, 04 cooperatives were dissolved; total operating capital reached 6,238 billion VND, an average of 22 billion VND/cooperative; average revenue reached 12.5 billion VND, an increase of 8.8% over the same period; average profit reached 270 million VND, an increase of 29% over the same period in 2023.
Along with that, the province continues to promote the implementation of preferential support policies for the collective economic sector and cooperatives, creating favorable conditions for cooperatives to develop human resources, land, science and technology, digital transformation, investment in infrastructure development, trade promotion, preferential loans, etc. Specifically, on December 9, 2024, the Provincial People's Council passed Resolution No. 36/NQ-HDND on approving the policy of establishing the Tien Giang Provincial Cooperative Development Support Fund, to meet the increasing demand for credit capital of the collective economic sector and cooperatives. With the support from the policies of the Party and the State and their own efforts, cooperatives are constantly consolidated and expanded in scale; In particular, organizing production according to the value chain, applying VietGAP and GlobalGAP standards and participating in the OCOP program, building growing area codes for export have helped improve product quality, expand domestic and foreign consumption markets, contributing to promoting the rural economy, improving farmers' lives. This is not only an economic model that helps maintain stable production and people's lives, but also a core force in implementing poverty reduction goals, building new rural areas, sustainable development...
At the conference, delegates focused on discussing success stories in production organization, value chain linkage, application of new technology and trade promotion; the current status of cooperatives in the locality, and proposed innovative models that can be replicated; shared experiences in implementing cooperative support policies in each field, from agriculture to industry and trade, finance and credit. In addition, the authorities responded to comments and recommendations from cooperatives, People's Committees of districts, cities and towns.

Speaking at the conference, Mr. Pham Van Trong, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, acknowledged and commended the results achieved by the Cooperative Union and the cooperative economic organizations in 2024. Mr. Pham Van Trong said that in the coming time, the Provincial Cooperative Union needs to grasp the characteristics and situation of 2025; at the same time, study and handle the recommendations of cooperatives under its authority, for recommendations beyond its authority, coordinate with departments, branches and localities to resolve them; study and replicate good and effective models in building and developing OCOP products.
The Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee suggested that the Department of Planning and Investment continue to pay attention to and study new policies and guidelines on the development of collective economy for timely implementation in the province. At the same time, research to help localities thoroughly handle cooperatives that have stopped operating or dissolved according to regulations. The Department of Finance organizes training and guides cooperatives on financial revenue and expenditure. The Department of Agriculture and Rural Development continues to coordinate to support agricultural cooperatives in applying production processes according to VietGAP and GlobalGAP standards; continue to mobilize and propagate cooperatives to participate in building OCOP products. The Department of Industry and Trade and the Department of Information and Communications increase information, promote and introduce cooperative products. The Department of Science and Technology supports and guides cooperatives in registering to build intellectual property trademarks for products. The People's Committees of districts, cities and towns review the operation of cooperatives and cooperative groups in the area; thoroughly handle cooperatives that have stopped operating, are waiting to be dissolved, or are operating in violation of regulations; Guide weak cooperatives to consolidate and restructure their organizations in accordance with the Law on Cooperatives...
