On January 17, Steering Committee 389/TG held a conference to review the work of combating smuggling, trade fraud and counterfeit goods in 2024 and deploy tasks for 2025. In 2024, the Steering Committee 389/TG has well implemented the directions of the Central Ministries and branches, especially the National Steering Committee 389, at the local level directly under the People's Committee of Tien Giang province; The Steering Committee 389/TG has developed plans and effectively implemented the directions of superiors, proactively monitored market developments, regularly supervised, inspected and promptly handled violations in production and business activities, contributing to stabilizing the market and preventing acts of taking advantage of the epidemic situation and market price fluctuations to hoard goods, raise prices excessively; produce, trade, sell, transport counterfeit goods, smuggled goods, goods of unknown origin and origin to make illegal profits,... contributing to creating trust for production and business organizations, individuals and consumers. In addition, it also reviews inadequacies and legal conflicts to recommend the National Steering Committee 389 to submit to competent authorities to amend and supplement a number of legal documents related to handling administrative violations.
In addition, the awareness of law compliance of organizations and individuals producing and trading in the province has changed positively. However, the situation of smuggling, trade fraud, and counterfeit goods in Tien Giang province continues to occur, with violations that are more difficult to detect. Notably, a number of cases of transporting and trading in prohibited goods such as smuggled foreign cigarettes, sugar, fertilizers, food, and animal feed that are fake in terms of use value, function, and quality that does not comply with the corresponding technical regulations and declaration documents have been discovered; a number of cases of organizations and individuals taking advantage of e-commerce activities such as: Sales websites, social networks Zalo, Facebook, Tiktok, ... to trade in smuggled goods, counterfeit goods, prohibited goods, goods of unknown origin, origin, and goods that do not ensure quality; The main infringing items are cosmetics, food, ready-made clothes, electronic cigarettes, fertilizers, veterinary medicines, modern medicines, etc. Specifically, in 2024, the functional sectors inspected over 3,000 cases, a decrease of 549 cases compared to 2023, detected 2,060 violations, an increase of 13 cases compared to 2023, prosecuted 11 criminal cases, sanctioned 2,049 administrative violations and collected more than 70 billion VND for the budget.

Speaking at the conference, Mr. Pham Van Trong, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee acknowledged the opinions of the members of the Steering Committee 389/TG and the locality. In the coming time, the Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee requested that the departments and branches that are members of the Steering Committee 389/TG, the Interdisciplinary Inspection Team 389/TG, the People's Committees of districts, towns and cities strictly implement the directions of the Government, the Prime Minister, the National Steering Committee 389, the People's Committee of Tien Giang province on combating smuggling, trade fraud, and counterfeit goods into programs and plans in accordance with the assigned functions and tasks. At the same time, urgently develop the 2025 action plan of the Steering Committee 389/TG; assign tasks and targets in inspection, examination and propaganda work to each relevant agency and unit.
Focus on the fight against smuggling, trade fraud and counterfeit goods before, during and after the Lunar New Year 2025 of the Steering Committee 389/TG. In particular, focus on controlling and preventing speculation, hoarding and sudden price increases, especially for essential goods and consumer goods during Tet; combating and preventing counterfeit goods, goods of unknown origin and goods that infringe intellectual property rights; monitoring and grasping the methods and tricks of violators; destroying networks, gangs, warehouses, yards, places where infringing goods are gathered and having proactive solutions to promptly detect and handle violations on e-commerce and digital transformation platforms.
Strengthening legal propaganda and education; innovating forms and improving the quality of each propaganda content; researching and applying information technology in inspection, detection and handling of violations and promptly handling information received through the hotline of Steering Committee 389/TG, thoroughly resolving people's recommendations and reflections related to violations of smuggling, trade fraud and counterfeit goods.
The Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee requested that the Steering Committee 389/TG should promptly report new violations and types of violations to the Provincial People's Committee, especially violations in the e-commerce environment, in order to prevent and promptly handle violations. Along with that, there should be evaluation and reward for organizations and individuals in the fight against smuggling, trade fraud and counterfeit goods.
