Before Decree 73, many teachers only received Tet bonuses of about 500,000 VND/person. This year, for the first time, teachers received legitimate Tet bonuses according to regulations.
Up to now, most universities have planned and announced Tet bonuses for staff, lecturers and employees. At Ho Chi Minh City University of Culture, each staff, lecturer and employee basically received a stable bonus as last year, the lowest being 55 million VND/person. The University of Foreign Languages (Vietnam National University, Hanoi) gave the lowest Tet bonus to staff and lecturers of nearly 30 million VND; the highest was up to 70 million VND. Notably, lecturers who are contract workers are also calculated for benefits according to the emulation coefficient to encourage their efforts and create a mechanism of equality and fair benefits.
The University of Transport distributes welfare money to each staff and lecturer on average more than 20 - 22 million VND, equivalent to last year's level, along with additional income as the 13th month salary in 2024 depending on the coefficient and position of each person, ranging from 5 - 7 million VND.
Meanwhile, some schools apply the same Tet bonus level for all cadres, civil servants, employees, and school leaders with a working period of 1 year or more, regardless of title, position, or degree. For example, Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry and Trade gives a Tet bonus of 25 million VND/person. Meanwhile, the University of Finance and Marketing said that this year, the school's civil servants and lecturers receive the same bonus level of 7.5 million VND/person, which has been fixed for many years.
For the general education sector, up to now, many schools nationwide have completed the payment plan for the 2025 Lunar New Year bonus according to Decree 73. The Ho Chi Minh City Education Trade Union informed that the highest Tet bonus of the city's education sector belongs to an FDI unit (foreign direct investment) with more than 100 million VND, while the lowest bonus of the same unit is about 4.3 million VND. In the private group, 89 out of 104 units gave Tet bonuses, of which the highest bonus was more than 28 million VND per person, the lowest was 300,000 VND. For public schools, according to the city's special policy, teachers in Ho Chi Minh City receive additional income in the fourth quarter and Tet gifts. In addition, they have an additional share from the school's annual budget surplus and year-end bonuses according to Decree 73. It is expected that each teacher will receive an additional 4 - 7 million VND per person.
In Hanoi, many teachers were excited to receive Tet bonuses according to Decree 73. Ms. Nguyen Thi Van Hong - Principal of Chuong Duong Secondary School (Hoan Kiem District, Hanoi) informed that this year the school received about 400 million VND in bonus funds, equivalent to 10% of the salary of 56 teachers in 6 months. The school evaluates teachers by monthly scores. The average monthly scores are aggregated to classify them by quarter, semester or year. Based on internal spending regulations and evaluation and classification criteria, the school divides the reward coefficients by 1, 2 and 2.5, respectively, multiplied by the base salary. About 10 teachers were classified as excellent, receiving a bonus of 5.85 million VND, the rest who completed well received nearly 4.7 million VND.
Thanh Cong B Primary School (Ba Dinh District, Hanoi) was granted a total bonus of more than 300 million VND, divided equally among 66 employees. The school bases regular bonuses on the level of task completion of the salaried person on the payroll. The basis for extraordinary bonuses is for individuals who have truly outstanding achievements, have a scope of influence and have a positive impact on the results of the school's task implementation.
Mr. Nguyen Quang Tung - Principal of MVLomonosov Secondary and High School (Hanoi) said that the average Tet bonus for teachers at the school is 22 million VND/person, the highest level will be more than 35 million VND. The basis for this bonus is that each teacher will receive a 1-month salary bonus, calculated by the average income in 12 months of 2024.
According to the provisions of Decree 73, by the end of January 31 of the following year, if an agency or unit does not use up the bonus fund of the year, it cannot transfer the source to the bonus fund of the following year. That is, by the deadline of January 31, localities must complete the payment of bonuses in 2024 to cadres, civil servants, and public employees, including teachers. Although compared to many other professions in society, even compared to teachers in other schools, other localities... the bonus level of many cadres and teachers is a very modest number, this is still a recognition of their efforts and efforts in their work.
