The 63.37km Mai Son - National Highway 45 (via Ninh Binh - Thanh Hoa) is one of 11 component projects of the North - South Eastern Expressway in the 2017-2020 period, which was just opened to traffic on the occasion of the April 30 - May 1 holidays.
On scorching hot days, thanks to the combination of sun, clouds and the colors of the fields, the scenery along both sides of the road appears magical, especially when the rain has just stopped.
The project started in September 2020 with 5 construction packages with a total length of more than 63km, and a total investment of over 12,000 billion VND from the state budget.
The project passes through Yen Mo, Hoa Lu districts, Tam Diep city (Ninh Binh) and Ha Trung, Vinh Loc, Yen Dinh, Thieu Hoa, Dong Son, Trieu Son, Nong Cong districts, Thanh Hoa city (Thanh Hoa).
Ninh Binh is famous for its vast pineapple fields. When in season, the fields appear with many beautiful colors, especially when viewed from above.
The starting point of Mai Son - National Highway 45 is at Km274+111.86 at Mai Son intersection (coinciding with the end point of the Cao Bo - Mai Son section investment and construction component project), located in Yen Mo district (Ninh Binh).
In the photo is the Tam Diep tunnel area, the first mountain tunnel project on the North-South expressway from Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh City.
This tunnel consists of 2 tunnels corresponding to 2 car directions.
Each tunnel has 3 lanes, 245m long. This is also the border between Ninh Binh and Thanh Hoa provinces.
In the phased phase, the Mai Son - National Highway 45 expressway was invested in construction with a scale of 4 limited lanes, a roadbed width of 17m, and a design speed of 80km/h. In the completed phase, the expressway was invested in a scale of 6 lanes, a roadbed width of 32.25m, and a design speed of 120km/h.
According to the reporter's observation, many drivers drive cars exceeding the speed limit.
On the morning of May 30, speaking with VietNamNet, a representative of the Mai Son - National Highway 45 Project Management Board said that just over a month since it was put into operation (April 29), the traffic police force in charge of this highway has had to handle over 1,000 cases of speeding.
Previously, on May 13, the Vietnam Expressway Administration said that it had just reported to the Ministry of Transport to study and evaluate the overall possibility of increasing the operating speed (maximum allowed speed) for the 4-lane expressway with a lane width of 3.5m from the current 80 km/h to 90 km/h.

During this period, the Mai Son - National Highway 45 also does not have continuous emergency lanes on both sides. Instead, emergency bays are arranged in each direction of the road, each bay is about 4-5km apart.
Thung Thi tunnel area belongs to package 12 of the project, with a total investment of more than 1,340 billion VND from the state budget. The package includes 5.7 km of road, 680 m of tunnel, starting point in Ha Tien commune, ending point in Ha Linh commune, Ha Trung district. As a permanent project, the tunnel consists of 2 tunnels, each tube has 3 lanes for motor vehicles.

At the intersection with Highway 217, at this time the rice fields are golden yellow, creating an eye-catching color, attracting the attention of people sitting in cars.
In the photo, Vinh An Bridge is located near the end of the project. The bridge is nearly 476m long, crossing the Ma River (connecting Vinh Loc and Yen Dinh districts). The construction value of the project in the package is about 220 billion VND. The bridge is designed to be built in a unit with a width of 23.5m, including 4 expressway lanes with a median strip; there is a lane for residents, with a scale of 2 lanes to serve the travel needs of people on both sides of the bridge.
