According to the announcement of Times Higher Education (THE), 9 Vietnamese representatives are in the top best schools in the world this year, including: Ho Chi Minh City University of Economics, Duy Tan University, Ton Duc Thang University, Hanoi Medical University, Ho Chi Minh City Open University, Hanoi National University, Hanoi University of Science and Technology, Hue University, Ho Chi Minh City National University.
Although it is the first time appearing in the rankings, Ho Chi Minh City University of Economics has the highest position among Vietnamese schools 501-600. Next are Duy Tan University and Ton Duc Thang University, ranked 601-800.
Also ranked for the first time, Hanoi Medical University and Ho Chi Minh City Open University are in the 801-1000 and 1201-1500 groups, higher than the four national and regional universities that have been regularly ranked in previous years.
This year's THE rankings take data from 2,092 higher education institutions in 115 countries and territories. THE has 18 evaluation criteria, divided into 5 groups, including: Learning environment (29.5%), Research environment (29%), Research quality (30%), International outlook (7.5%), Knowledge transfer (4%).
The UK's Oxford University has retained its number one position for the ninth consecutive year, breaking Harvard's previous record of eight years. While holding the top spot, Oxford's scores have continued to improve significantly, thanks to a number of indicators related to income, research quality and teaching quality. The proportion of international students is also a point that helps the school stand out.
In the US, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) is the country's highest ranked school and is in second place with a total score of 98.1, just 0.4 points behind Oxford.
Stanford University unexpectedly fell from No. 2 to No. 6. This is the school's lowest ranking since 2010 due to declines in indicators for teaching quality, research environment and international outlook.
Harvard University rose from fourth to third place, and Princeton University also rose from sixth to fourth.
In the top 20, Asia has 3 representatives, namely Tsinghua University (ranked 12th), Peking University (ranked 13th) and National University of Singapore (ranked 17th). Tsinghua University maintains its ranking while Peking University and National University of Singapore move up 1-2 places, respectively.
