Texting wife, kidnapped child demanding ransom of 10 billion VND to test husband's feelings

On September 28, Hanoi Police said that Hai Ba Trung District Police are consolidating records and documents to administratively punish Ms. NPT for her act of pretending to be a kidnapper and texting her husband, demanding ransom.

Accordingly, on September 26, Hai Ba Trung District Police received a report from Mr. DHG (33 years old, residing in Minh Khai Ward, Hai Ba Trung District) about his wife and 3-year-old son being kidnapped, demanding a ransom of 10 billion VND.

Hai Ba Trung District Police then reported and was directed by Major General Nguyen Thanh Tung, Deputy Director and Head of the Hanoi City Police Investigation Agency, to coordinate with the city police forces to urgently verify and clarify the incident.

After two hours, the police discovered that Mr. DHG's wife and children were not kidnapped but were waiting for medical examination at the Pediatrics Department of the International General Hospital in the area.

At the police station, Ms. NPT confessed that she texted her husband with the content "prepare 10 billion to ransom wife and children, report to the police that she will kill both of them and then commit suicide" with the purpose of "testing her husband's feelings and reactions".

Currently, Hai Ba Trung District Police are consolidating records and documents to administratively sanction Ms. NPT for violations in the fields of post, telecommunications, radio frequencies, information technology and electronic transactions in Decree No. 15 of the Government.

The city police advise people not to post false information, causing confusion, affecting other individuals and organizations. Individuals posting false information will be strictly punished.
