(Dan Tri) - A man in Ha Tinh received a call from a strange phone number threatening to edit his personal images into an obscene video and post it online if he did not transfer 15 million VND.
On the morning of December 13, Ky Dong Commune Police (Ky Anh District, Ha Tinh) said that the unit received a report from Mr. B.D.V. (born in 1992, from Cam Xuyen District, Ha Tinh), who is doing business in Ky Dong Commune, about being threatened and blackmailed over the phone.
According to the report, at around 9:20 a.m. on December 12, Mr. V. received a call from an unknown number threatening to edit his personal images into obscene videos. If Mr. V. did not transfer 15 million VND as requested, the subject would spread the videos on social networks and send them to the victim's family and friends.
Realizing this was a scam, the man did not follow and went to the Ky Dong Commune Police Station to report the incident.
After receiving the information, the police officer explained to Mr. V. that this was a form of fraud to appropriate property on the internet, and at the same time, further propagated the fraud methods.
Police recommend that people should be vigilant, not transfer money or provide personal information as requested by strange phone numbers, and immediately report to authorities if they detect signs of fraud.
