This is Prime Minister Christopher Luxon's first visit to Vietnam, in the context that this year Vietnam and New Zealand celebrate 50 years of establishing diplomatic relations (June 19, 1975 - June 19, 2025) and 5 years of Strategic Partnership.
The visit took place over 4 days at the invitation of Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh.
The visit is of particular importance. Prime Minister Christopher Luxon has a very large agenda for the Southeast Asian region. New Zealand identifies Vietnam as one of its most important partners in the region and globally.

Accompanying Prime Minister Christopher Luxon on his official visit to Vietnam were Minister in charge of the Ministries of Trade and Investment, Women's Affairs, Agriculture, and Accident Insurance Nicola Grigg; advisors from the Prime Minister's Office, the Prime Minister's Office and the Cabinet, the Parliamentary Office, and leaders of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade.
Welcoming the New Zealand Prime Minister and his delegation at the airport were: Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Kim Son; Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Do Hung Viet; leaders of several departments of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Government Office.
25 business leaders from New Zealand accompanied the Prime Minister on the visit. The businesses will sign cooperation agreements with partners in Vietnam. New Zealand hopes the visit will open up new business opportunities.
Tomorrow, Prime Minister Christopher Luxon will attend a welcoming ceremony at the Presidential Palace and hold talks with Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, witness the signing and exchange of documents.
New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon will meet with key Vietnamese leaders and have other activities in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City.
Prime Minister Christopher Luxon will also attend and speak at the ASEAN Future Forum 2025, demonstrating New Zealand’s commitment to ASEAN. Vietnam is the coordinator of ASEAN-New Zealand relations, with 2025 also marking the 50th anniversary of the ASEAN-New Zealand Strategic Partnership.
In recent years, the multifaceted cooperation between Vietnam and New Zealand has made important strides, especially since the two countries officially established a Strategic Partnership in 2020. With a solid foundation of half a century of cooperation and friendship, the relationship between the two countries is entering a period of many new cooperation opportunities.
