Poet and musician Nguyen Thuy Kha was born on October 7, 1949 in Hai Phong. He has been a member of the Vietnam Writers Association since 1990. He is not only a poet but also a journalist, musician and music researcher. Graduated from the University of Information and Nguyen Du Writing School, he served in the army from 1972 to 1990 as an information engineer.
During his career, he made many important contributions to Vietnamese music. Research works such as Van Cao - The person walking along the sea, Half a century of Vietnamese modern music, The faces of music of the century... are valuable references. He also composed songs such as Afternoon without you, Returning to Hai Phong... and produced the documentary Nguyen Binh Khiem - The big tree with 500 years of shade .
Nguyen Thuy Kha won many awards from the Vietnam Musicians Association from 1996 to 2006. He also wrote music criticism essays, composed poetry and had many poems set to music, leaving a deep impression on the public.
Poet Nguyen Quang Thieu wrote about him as a “wanderer passing through the world”, living freely, writing and composing in his own way. His passing did not create a heavy feeling but rather a continuing journey.
In the last months of his life, he fought colon cancer and was treated at Hanoi Medical University Hospital. Despite his serious illness, he remained optimistic, clear-headed, and calmly accepted his fate. When he realized his health condition, he told his friends, “enough is enough.”
The passing of Nguyen Thuy Kha is a great loss to Vietnamese literature and music. His contributions will always be remembered in the hearts of art lovers.
