The Department of Culture and Sports of Ho Chi Minh City has just reported on the organization of activities to summarize 50 years of Ho Chi Minh City literature and arts after the country's reunification.
In the report, the Department of Culture and Sports mentioned the plan to rearrange the address at 25 Le Quy Don (Vo Thi Sau Ward, District 3). This place used to be the Southern National Funeral Home or Le Quy Don Funeral Home, which has been inactive since December 2020.
According to the Department of Culture and Sports, from the end of 2024, the Standing Committee of Steering Committee 167 (Steering Committee for rearrangement and handling of houses and land) requested the Department to preside over and coordinate with the Department of Planning and Architecture (now the Department of Construction), District 3 People's Committee to advise and propose an investment plan to build a project at site No. 25, Le Quy Don Street. The plan needs to be sent to the Standing Committee of the Steering Committee for synthesis, reporting, and consultation with the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee.
Earlier this year, the Department of Culture and Sports sent a document to the Ho Chi Minh City Union of Literature and Arts Associations for coordination.
On February 19, the Union of Literature and Arts Associations proposed the project of Ho Chi Minh City Literature and Arts Space at the above address.
The project is a group B cultural project. The agency that decides on the investment policy is the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee, the project investor is the City's Civil and Industrial Construction Investment Project Management Board.
According to the proposal of the Union of Literature and Arts Associations, the Ho Chi Minh City Literature and Arts Space project has an area of over 2,600m2, with a construction density of 50%. The total construction floor area of the project is 13,000m2, of which the usable floor area is over 11,700m2, the basement floor area is nearly 1,600m2.
The Ho Chi Minh City Literature and Arts Space is expected to have 7 floors above ground and 2 basements. The total investment is expected to be over 472 billion VND from the city budget, implemented in the period of 2025-2028.
Following the proposal of the Ho Chi Minh City Union of Literature and Arts Associations, the Department of Culture and Sports has asked the People's Committee of District 3 and the Department of Construction to coordinate and give opinions on this plan before March 4.
However, up to now, the Department of Culture and Sports has not received any response from the units. The Department of Culture and Sports recommends that the People's Committee of District 3 and the Department of Construction soon issue a response document to have a basis for synthesizing and sending it to Steering Committee 167 according to regulations.
At the time Le Quy Don Funeral Home stopped operating, Ho Chi Minh City also put into operation a new funeral home in An Lac Ward, Binh Tan District. Moving the funeral home out of District 3 at that time was to avoid traffic congestion in the inner city area and ensure safety and environmental sanitation in Ho Chi Minh City.
Le Quy Don Funeral Home is one of two Southern National Funeral Homes in Ho Chi Minh City, along with the funeral home of Military Hospital 175, Ministry of National Defense on Pham Ngu Lao Street, Go Vap District.
