Lam Dong currently has 78 communes, 478 villages, and residential groups that are ethnic minority areas with 46 ethnic minorities living together. Ethnic minorities account for 25.72% of the province's population.
Implementing Decision No. 12/2018/QD-TTg dated March 6, 2018 of the Prime Minister on criteria for selecting and recognizing prestigious people and policies for prestigious people among ethnic minorities, through voting in localities in the province, Lam Dong Provincial People's Committee recognized 448 prestigious people among ethnic minorities.
Of these, 91 people are village Party cell secretaries, village front committee heads and village chiefs; 20 people are religious dignitaries; 28 retired officials; 18 businessmen; 7 clan leaders; 108 village elders. The oldest person is Lieng Hot Ha Chong, 93 years old, a K'Ho ethnic in Da Tong commune, Dam Rong district; the youngest person is Cil Ka Hanh, 34 years old, a K'Ho ethnic in Da Quyn commune, Duc Trong district.
Prestigious people in the province enjoy full policies according to regulations such as being provided with newspapers; attending training courses to disseminate and educate the law; providing information on the situation and tasks of socio-economic development and national defense of the province and district.
Prestigious people are allowed to visit, study, and exchange experiences inside and outside the province, and participate in programs, projects, and ethnic policies being implemented locally. Prestigious people are also visited and given gifts twice a year; visited and supported when they are sick, their families encounter natural disasters, fires, or when a relative passes away...
Over the years, prestigious people among ethnic minorities have truly been a bridge between the Party, the government and ethnic minorities in propagating and mobilizing people to implement the Party's policies and guidelines and the State's laws and policies; mobilizing people to develop the socio-economy; preserving and promoting national cultural identity, building a new cultural life in residential areas; maintaining security, national defense and social order and safety in ethnic minority areas and in building the grassroots political system and the great national unity bloc.
Prestigious people continue to promote their role as good examples, actively contributing with ethnic minorities in the province to implement the Party's guidelines and policies, the State's policies and laws; actively mobilizing people not to believe, not to listen, not to work for bad guys; to preserve and promote national cultural identity, especially to practice a civilized lifestyle, not to violate the law... Along with the knowledge provided by the Party, the government and the mass fronts, each person also equips himself with knowledge to better promote his role.
According to preliminary statistics, in the past 10 years, prestigious people in the province have participated in over 1,800 mediation sessions; reformed 648 subjects to integrate into the community; participated in denouncing over 100 criminals; and mobilized participation in the fight against crime in 287 sessions.
Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Phuc, Vice Chairman of Lam Dong Provincial People's Committee, assessed: The province has more than 1.2 million people, of which ethnic minorities account for 25.72%, equivalent to more than 1/4 of the total population. With that characteristic, in recent times, prestigious people in the whole province have helped the Party Committee and authorities at all levels, especially the grassroots authorities, effectively implement plans, resolutions, and goals...
Promoting their role, prestigious people have done a good job of propaganda and mobilizing people of all walks of life to carry out movements in all aspects. 448 typical advanced people were honored as exemplary models, representing the villages, hamlets and neighborhoods where they live. Regardless of their age, they all uphold the spirit of being exemplary.
At the Conference, Lam Dong province honored 106 prestigious people among ethnic minorities with many outstanding achievements in the period of 2021 - 2023; awarded certificates of merit from the Minister, Chairman of the Ethnic Committee and Certificates of merit from the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee to 8 people, Certificates of merit from the Head of the Ethnic Committee to 90 people with outstanding achievements in the task of preserving the great solidarity of ethnic groups, contributing to the development of the local socio-economy in recent years...
