Speaking at the launching ceremony of Youth Reading Day to celebrate Book and Reading Culture Day, Deputy Minister of Information and Communications Nguyen Thanh Lam and Secretary of the Central Youth Union Nguyen Minh Triet quoted the ancients to affirm the great role of books and reading, especially for young people.
Mr. Nguyen Thanh Lam affirmed that in the era of rapidly developing technology and information overload, the humble act of reading books has a deeper meaning than ever.
Mr. Lam advised young people that "in every step of growing up, establishing a career, every young person's luggage must always have books as a companion."
Mr. Lam also called on youth union members to pay more attention to books, cultivate reading habits, and spread the message of good values in each book to those around them.
Giving a very encouraging signal showing that Vietnamese people and Vietnamese youth still value books, Mr. Nguyen Minh Triet called on youth union members to continue sharing good books and useful information from books, spreading the love of reading in the community.
Mr. Triet said that in recent years, the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union at all levels has organized many activities to promote reading habits among young people.
These are the campaign "Each youth has a book as a friend", book festivals, book reading competitions, book exchanges, giving reading spaces to children in disadvantaged areas and locations, building youth bookcases in residential areas, schools, agencies, offices...
