Elephant Father Rock (Video: Bao An)
Father Elephant Rock and Mother Elephant Rock are two of the largest monolithic rocks in Vietnam.
About 1 hour drive from the capital of Dak Lak province, this place has become a destination in the Central Highlands for many years.
Located in Yang Tao commune, Lak district, about 40km from Buon Ma Thuot city center along National Highway 27, Yang Tao Elephant Rock consists of a pair of Father Elephant and Mother Elephant rocks standing tall, carrying within them thrilling and mysterious legends.
The Father Elephant Rock is smaller than the Mother Elephant Rock: about 70m long and about 180m in circumference. At the foot of the rock mountain is a vast green rice field, with butterflies fluttering, creating a beautiful natural scene.
Elephant Rock is becoming a famous destination in Dak Lak. This is also the place where couples come to make their vows. Local people believe that when couples in love come here to date, the rock god will protect their love and make it last forever.
Mother Elephant Rock (Video: Bao An)
Mother Elephant Rock is about 200m long, the circumference at the foot of the rock is about 500m, and the height is about 30m. Yang Tao rock mountain is shaped like a giant elephant leaning against the majestic Central Highlands. This is the largest monolithic rock in Vietnam.
From the ground, it takes only about 15 minutes to reach the highest peak of the rock by climbing over gentle slopes.
From the top of Mother Elephant Rock, you can observe many scenic spots in the area such as: Yang Reh Lake and Chu Yang Sin range - the roof of the Central Highlands.
