The World Journalists' Conference 2025 opened on March 31 at the Korea Press Center in central Seoul.
The event, organized by the Korean Journalists Association, attracted 62 journalists from 52 countries around the world.
The main theme of this year's conference is journalism in the age of artificial intelligence (AI) and the role of journalism in responding to climate change.
In his opening speech, Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Yoo In-chon emphasized that the development of AI and social media is fundamentally changing the way news is produced and consumed. Minister Yoo In-chon also said that with the development of AI and social media, the speed of news transmission is getting faster, the level of personalized content is increasing, and the way news is produced and consumed is fundamentally changing.
In order for valuable accurate information to be provided in a timely manner, it is necessary to establish standards of media ethics and international cooperation for the fair use of news content and copyright protection in the new media era.

Mr. Park Jong-hyun, President of the Korea Journalists Association, the event's host, emphasized in his opening speech that we are now living in an era where anyone can access news and necessary information anytime, anywhere with just a smartphone. Digital science and technology are evolving faster than ever. If news organizations do not prepare for their future, they could face unprecedented crises.
The two major themes of this year's conference are journalism in the age of AI and the role of journalism in tackling climate change, which are two major tasks that the international community and the media have a responsibility to work together to improve.
South Korean National Assembly Speaker Woo Won-shik sent a video congratulatory message to the event, stressing that the world press is facing challenges from the widespread wave of misinformation and fake news. Therefore, this year's World Press Conference is a good opportunity for journalists from various countries to gather to discuss the challenges facing global journalism and to discuss solutions for the development of journalism in the new era.
During the conference, journalists discussed the use of AI in journalism, while emphasizing the importance of maintaining professional ethics and ensuring that AI does not replace human analysis and judgment. Keynote speeches at the conference addressed the role of AI in journalism.
The World Journalists' Conference has been held annually since 2013 with various themes relating to major national and global issues and challenges such as world peace and the environment.
