In recent times, the movement of collecting, classifying and treating waste at home has been focused on by the Women's Union at all levels of Ky Anh district and has developed quite strongly in localities. In particular, the Women's Union of Ky Phong commune is a pioneer and operates effectively; becoming a regular and enthusiastic emulation movement of women.

With many creative methods, women in Ky Phong commune have put the collection, classification and processing of household waste into order. 10/10 villages have implemented the process to ensure efficiency, with over 90% of waste classified at source; 100% of organic waste is processed into organic fertilizer.
In particular, in October 2024, the Women's Union of Ky Phong commune was directed by the district to pilot the model of "Organic waste treatment cooperative group" with 21 members. Accordingly, after waste is collected and classified at home; once a week, organic waste is transported by specialized vehicles to the collection site. Here, members continue to classify for the last time to completely remove inorganic waste; then use microbiological preparations to carry out the stages of mixing yeast and composting waste; after 2 months, organic fertilizer products will be produced.

According to the President of the Women's Union - Head of the Organic Waste Treatment Cooperative in Ky Phong Commune - Hoang Thi Lien, compared to sorting and processing fertilizers at home, the centralized sorting and processing model is much more superior, especially ensuring the process and specifications of using biological products in the composting process... In addition, centralized waste treatment has a collection site, far from residential areas, ensuring environmental sanitation.
After nearly 6 months of operation, with about 5 tons of organic waste sorted each week, up to now, the Organic Fertilizer Processing Cooperative of the Women's Union of Ky Phong commune has processed over 100 tons of waste after sorting, of which nearly 10 tons of organic fertilizer have been "baked", used to fertilize rice and other crops.

Receiving 1 ton of organic fertilizer that has just been processed from waste to fertilize her family's 3 sao of spring rice fields, Ms. Nguyen Thi Than, a member of the Ky Phong Commune Organic Waste Treatment Cooperative, was extremely excited with the initial results from the environmentally friendly fertilizer product she made herself.
Ms. Than said: “Rice plants fertilized with organic fertilizer processed from waste grow and develop very well. Specifically, the stems are much harder and stronger than the rice plants in the neighboring field fertilized with normal fertilizer; the root system is strong and the proportion of white young roots is also exceptionally high. In particular, there are no signs of common pests and diseases such as: rice blast disease, brown spot disease, brown planthoppers, leaf rollers…”.

It is known that to help the Ky Phong Commune Organic Waste Treatment Cooperative develop, the Ky Anh District People's Committee has allocated 300 million VND from the budget to build a waste treatment area, a system of cement compost tanks (nearly 100 tanks) and upgrade the road to the waste treatment site of the cooperative.
Chairwoman of the Women's Union of Ky Phong commune, Hoang Thi Lien, excitedly said: "This is a great encouragement for the members of the cooperative to continue to strive to maintain, develop and promote the effectiveness of this model, contributing to environmental protection and creating a source of clean, low-cost fertilizer for agricultural production."
Ms. Lien also said that in the near future, based on the quality of organic fertilizer products processed from waste, the cooperative will propose to the locality to support the purchase of fertilizer grinders; product packaging systems for consumption on the market.

It can be said that, up to now, the model of the Women's Organic Waste Treatment Cooperative of Ky Phong commune has affirmed its clear effectiveness in both ensuring environmental sanitation and sustainable economic development. With these initial results, Ky Anh district is continuing to monitor, evaluate and direct replication, contributing to solving environmental problems, building an organic, ecological and sustainable agriculture.
