Andrey Kaprin also said that the vaccine will be given free of charge to patients. According to him, volunteers have been recruited to participate in clinical trials of a personalized mRNA vaccine to treat cancer.
Earlier, Alexander Gintsburg, head of the Gamaleya Research Institute of Epidemiology and Microbiology, informed that according to the plan submitted to the Russian Ministry of Health, the vaccine is expected to be licensed for use in August this year, so that it can start injecting patients in September as part of clinical trials.
A personalized mRNA vaccine for cancer treatment has been developed by scientists from the Gamaleya Research Center for Epidemiology and Microbiology, the Herzen Moscow Research Institute of Oncology and the Blokhina Cancer Research Center. Human trials of the vaccine could begin in September this year.
Mr. Alexander Ginzburg told the Russian press that preclinical research on cancer vaccines has shown that this drug has the effect of preventing tumor growth.
The first people to receive the cancer vaccine in clinical trials could be patients with melanoma and lung cancer, he added. Scientists also plan to develop cancer models to create personalized mRNA vaccines for diseases including kidney, breast and pancreatic cancer.
