With the available advantages of tourism resources and rapid changes in the system of facilities, infrastructure, products... are favorable conditions to promote the process of "upgrading" Thanh Hoa tourism on the national tourism map. However, in the current general difficult context, Thanh Hoa tourism still has many limitations that need to be quickly resolved to achieve the expected goals.

In recent years, Thanh Hoa tourism has recovered and grown well, becoming one of the localities in the country attracting a large number of visitors. Continuing that growth momentum, from the beginning of 2024 until now, the province's tourism has continued to record a breakthrough in both the number of visitors and revenue. Notably, many new tourism products have attracted the attention of a large number of tourists, typically night tourism products and high-class entertainment.
According to the report of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, in the first 7 months of 2024, the whole province welcomed nearly 13 million visitors, with total revenue estimated at nearly 28 trillion VND. With this impressive figure, Thanh Hoa continues to be one of the top localities in the country with strong growth in revenue and number of visitors compared to the same period last year. This shows the right direction and open potential to "upgrade" the province's "smokeless industry" in the coming time.
Although the number of visitors to Thanh Hoa is growing well, frankly admitting that there are still some shortcomings and limitations such as: the flow of high-end tourists and international tourists is still limited; many tourist areas and destinations still lack experiential tourism products and services; lack of high-quality human resources... In particular, the number of flights to and from Tho Xuan Airport has been narrowed, greatly affecting the expansion of the province's tourist market.
Representatives of some tourism businesses said that in the current difficult context, compared to other localities in the region, Thanh Hoa tourism has many advantages when owning a convenient transportation system, basic facilities that meet the needs of customer segments, and diverse tourism products. However, to create a competitive advantage and attract high-spending customers from key markets, it is not only necessary to develop new tourism products, but the products must be truly unique, professional, synchronous, and of high service quality. Mr. Le Xuan Thuan, Vice Chairman of the Thanh Hoa City Tourism Association, said: “In the immediate future, it is necessary to focus on upgrading night tourism products, bringing visitors unique and attractive experience spaces with diverse services. To do that, the province needs to study and promulgate appropriate mechanisms and policies, especially preferential policies on capital, taxes, etc. to attract businesses to participate in developing night tourism services. In addition, relevant units need to continue to effectively organize cultural, sports and tourism events to attract tourists and enhance tourism brands. This is also the basis for travel businesses to select unique and attractive events to include in tours to serve tourists in the following years.
To meet the expectations and desires of tourists and the inevitable trend in development - that is, comprehensive innovation from the quantity to the quality of tourism products and services, the province's tourism industry has been synchronously implementing solutions to build and develop diverse tourism products; innovate market approaches; improve the quality of human resources... Along with that, mobilizing the participation of businesses in upgrading and putting into operation new, high-quality tourism products; strongly responding to stimulus activities, attracting tourists to enhance the brand "Thanh Hoa Tourism - Four Seasons of Fragrance". Aiming to welcome 13.8 million visitors, tourism revenue reaching 32,387 trillion VND in 2024, creating a driving force to promote the successful completion of tourism development goals for the period 2021-2025.
Deputy Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism Vuong Thi Hai Yen said: “We are proud that tourism activities have been growing rapidly, but the results have not really reflected the inherent potential and strengths. The relatively high growth in the number of visitors and revenue in recent times is a good sign, attracting much attention from domestic tourism investment enterprises. Many entertainment areas such as Flamingo Ibiza Hai Tien (Hoang Hoa), Sun World Sam Son Water Park (Sam Son City) and Phan Chu Trinh walking street (Thanh Hoa City) have been put into operation to serve visitors. Notably, the planning system of tourist areas and destinations is constantly updated and adjusted to suit market demand and investment ideas. Up to now, the whole province has attracted 83 projects, with a total registered investment capital of about 146 trillion VND. This will be a favorable condition for Thanh Hoa tourism to have more opportunities to "upgrade" in the coming time and become one of the localities with developed tourism industry in the country."
