TPO - The Ho Chi Minh Road project through Kien Giang and Bac Lieu needs about 2.1 million cubic meters of sand, but so far the investor has only been able to balance about 300,000 cubic meters. To speed up the progress, contractors have bought sand from Cambodia to construct right at the locations where the land has been handed over.

Informing Tien Phong reporter , representative of the Ho Chi Minh Road Project Management Office, Rach Soi - Ben Nhat section (under the Ho Chi Minh Road Project Management Board - investor) said that as of September 19, Bac Lieu has handed over 4.7/6.6km of land. Kien Giang has handed over more than 18/42km.

According to the investor representative, of the total sand demand for the project, the investor has only been able to balance the source of about 300,000m3. The remaining 1.8 million m3 of sand is awaiting survey results from the sand mine in Tien Giang and the sea sand mine near Hon Son (Kien Giang).

The road section, currently only over 2.5km has been constructed because only 50,000m3 of sand has been imported, out of the total demand of 2.1 million m3 of sand.

The investor representative added that the contractors are determined to speed up the construction progress by purchasing sand from Cambodia to construct right at the locations where the land has been handed over.

“The price of sand paid under the contract is less than 240,000 VND/m3, but if we buy sand from Cambodia, it will be around 300,000 VND/m3. The contractor accepts the loss to speed up the progress. The sand source is official and legal, the unit has taken samples for testing and they meet the standards,” said the investor representative.

Mr. Do Duc Binh - General Director of Hai Dang Joint Stock Company, the contractor for the XL1 package of the Ho Chi Minh road, Rach Soi - Ben Nhat section through Kien Giang and Bac Lieu - said: "We are negotiating a contract to buy 35,000m3 of sand from Cambodia, with the price at the construction site ranging from 290,000 - 310,000 VND/m3. We will construct as soon as the site is handed over."

This year, it is expected that the investor will disburse 30% more capital than the registered plan of more than 1,389 billion VND.
