OCOP products need to compete with cultural values when approaching the market.

Also at the opening ceremony, Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Le Minh Hoan highly appreciated the Ministry of Industry and Trade and the Vietnam Cooperative Alliance for accompanying and coordinating with the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development to organize this event.

Minister Le Minh Hoan said that with its diverse advantages and potentials in natural resources, climate and unique culture, Vietnam is not only successful in exporting its strong agricultural products, but is also a country with many identities with specialties, products and traditional craft villages, bearing local cultural values, most clearly demonstrated in the image of Vietnamese OCOP products. These are products that represent the value and quintessence of Vietnamese culture through each product story, which shows the aspirations and images of farmers associated with each Vietnamese countryside.

After more than 6 years of implementation, Vietnam has had more than 14,000 OCOP products from nearly 8,000 entities. OCOP products have gradually approached the market, unleashing the potential and advantages of regions to develop the rural economy. "This is also the time to change more strongly, affirming Vietnamese cultural values through each OCOP product to target the export market" - Minister Le Minh Hoan emphasized.

Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Le Minh Hoan

It can be seen that the OCOP Program has had positive and significant impacts on rural economic development, such as: The OCOP Program has contributed to changing the organization of production in rural areas towards linking value chains, unleashing the potential of land, products, and comparative advantages of localities; OCOP products meet quality and food safety standards and regulations; have diverse designs and packaging that are environmentally friendly, suitable for market requirements; The program contributes to creating more jobs, promoting the direction of livelihood development in particularly difficult areas and vulnerable groups such as ethnic minorities and women; The OCOP Program helps entities to be proactive in market development, expanding distribution channels, and expanding production and business activities.

However, according to Minister Le Minh Hoan, besides those results, OCOP products still have a lot of room for development and many requirements that need to be completed in order to reach further into the international market.

OCOP products are Vietnamese values and identities, OCOP products need to compete with cultural values when approaching the market. Nowadays, consumers do not only buy products but also buy “the story that creates the product”, so the more special the story, the more different the price, the easier it is to communicate and promote the product to the market. Therefore, the story needs to be built with different values of culture and indigenous knowledge, and must be shown on packaging and labels; the story not only creates emotions for consumers, but also enhances pride in the homeland and country. That must be the prerequisite and aspiration for the subjects to build and perfect OCOP products” - Minister Le Minh Hoan emphasized.

In addition, OCOP entities need to prepare and be ready for integration. In addition to the requirements on standards, quality, food safety, commercial capacity and initiative, requirements to participate in the distribution chain (branding, trademark, logistic capacity, ...), OCOP entities need to be flexible and creative in building and designing products, which is the story of packaging, packaging methods suitable for each customer segment and market requirements.

Along with that, OCOP entities need to change their thinking and commercial habits, which are prestige and responsibility towards partners and consumers.

“This event was organized by the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and other units. We come here not only to sell products, but also to experience, learn from experiences, and learn about the practices of other units and localities to improve ourselves; at the same time, it is also an opportunity to receive information and market requirements to change. Therefore, I hope that OCOP entities will take advantage of these opportunities and spaces to continue to do better, improve more, and access the market more effectively. ”- Minister Le Minh Hoan expressed and added that, in order for entities to reach further, he suggested that trade agencies and Vietnamese embassies abroad increase information, promotion and trade connections for OCOP products, because it is not only a story about the economy, it is also the promotion and introduction of Vietnamese culture to the world.

The head of the agricultural sector also emphasized that, with the role of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, the Ministry will always accompany and support localities and businesses, especially always support new ideas and solutions, contributing to promoting consumption and increasing the value of Vietnamese OCOP products.

VIETNAM OCOPEX will take place from October 31 to November 4, 2024 at Venice Area in Ocean Park 3 Urban Area, Hanoi with the participation of more than 230 enterprises, cooperatives, and OCOP entities from 38 localities across the country displaying more than 460 OCOP products from 3 stars to 5 stars at 250 booths.
