New generation buses in Can Tho are fully equipped, run on time, and on the right route, helping students travel conveniently and save time.
"The bus is cool and clean"!
For many years, Le Hoang Kim Ngan (11A1 student at Bui Huu Nghia High School) in Binh Thuy District, Can Tho City has maintained the habit of taking the bus twice a day to go to school and return home.
This female student said that because her parents are busy with work, they cannot take her to school every day. She is not comfortable using a bicycle because the road from home to school is crowded with vehicles. The best option for Ngan to get to school is to use the bus.
Female student Le Hoang Kim Ngan shares the reason for choosing the bus as a means of transportation to school.
Every morning, Ngan walks to Highway 91 (existing Le Hong Phong Street) to catch the bus to school. It takes more than 15 minutes for this female student to reach the bus stop right in front of the school gate. "I find the bus very convenient for students like me. Parents don't have to bother taking them to and from school, and it's safe. The bus is always clean and cool," Ngan said.
More importantly, students are entitled to a discount on the bus fare along the route, at 7,000 VND/trip/passenger. Using this means of transport for students is an economical and safe option.
On the same bus with Ngan were many middle school students returning home after school. Like Ngan, they chose the bus as their means of transportation to save money and their parents' time.
Students choose to go to school by bus because it saves time and money for their parents.
"Before, my parents and I used to take turns taking me to and from school. Later, seeing that it was very convenient for my friends at school to take the bus, my parents taught me to take the bus. After I took it a few times, I invited my friends who lived nearby to go with me," said Pham Hoang Quan, a student at Tra An Secondary School (Binh Thuy District).
Striving to improve bus quality
Since 2020, Phuong Trang Passenger Transport Joint Stock Company - FUTA Bus Lines has won the bid and started operating 7 inner-city bus routes. Of which, the fleet of 42 high-quality cars, air-conditioned, fully equipped with wifi, has revived the previously sluggish public passenger transport service.
Ms. Ho Thanh Thanh, representative of a bus operator in Can Tho, said that people usually have the habit of using personal vehicles, especially motorbikes, to travel short distances. As for tourists, they choose to use technology to call motorbikes or cars. Therefore, buses are less likely to reach this group of passengers.
Students at Tra An Secondary School (Binh Thuy District) get on the bus to return home after school.
However, Ms. Thanh said, there are some people who choose and stick with buses, including the elderly, students and pupils.
According to the Can Tho Department of Transport, in the coming time, the Urban Traffic Management and Operation Center will continue to coordinate with bus operators to adjust the routes of existing routes to improve service quality.
Thereby, the Department will study expanding the network of routes to enhance capacity and effectively connect rural areas to the city center.
In addition, the Department will also advise and propose to develop norms and unit prices for public passenger transport by bus in the city. This will be the basis for selecting investors and exploiting subsidized bus routes to expand the entire network.
