Eels, a popular specialty, are raised densely in cement tanks. A Binh Dinh resident makes a big profit every time he sells them.

Eels can be sold after about 6-7 months of farming. On average, each farming tank can produce 450-500 kg of commercial eels. With wholesale eel meat price of 130,000 VND/kg and retail eel price of 150,000 VND/kg, each year, Mr. Tam, Phuoc Nghia commune, Tuy Phuoc district (Binh Dinh province) earns more than 500 million VND in profit.

Although the land area is not large, thanks to the correct and systematic application of mud-free eel farming methods, each year, Mr. Nguyen Van Tam (Tho Nghia village, Phuoc Nghia commune, Tuy Phuoc district, Binh Dinh province) earns hundreds of millions of dong in profit.

Being hard-working, diligent and always looking for new directions in economic development, Mr. Tam soon realized the potential of the mud-free eel farming model. In 2017, he built 10 cement tanks (about 20 m2/tank), lined them with tarpaulin, and then bought 20,000 eel fry to raise.

Thanks to proper care, the eels grow well, bringing in a stable income. Seeing the economic efficiency, in 2020, Mr. Tam decided to expand the scale, building 10 new tanks. Since then, the family's income has increased, and life has gradually improved.

According to Mr. Tam, for eels to grow and develop well, it is important to ensure that the tank environment is always clean and airy. Eels are very sensitive to water quality, so he always focuses on changing the water regularly. In addition, on the water surface, he spreads many nylon fibers to create shelter for the eels, helping them grow healthily.

Not only does it bring high income to his family, his model also creates stable jobs for 7-10 workers with an average income of more than 5 million VND/person/month.

Besides, Mr. Tam also enthusiastically guides eel farming techniques for about 30 households in the area, helping many people have a stable income.

In 2024, Mr. Nguyen Van Tam was awarded a certificate of merit by the Provincial People's Committee for having an effective and stable production model.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Hiep, Chairwoman of the Farmers' Association of Phuoc Nghia Commune, Tuy Phuoc District (Binh Dinh Province) commented: In the commune, there are many households raising mud-free eels, of which Mr. Nguyen Van Tam's model is a successful example, bringing high economic efficiency.

In the coming time, the Commune Farmers’ Association will actively support people to replicate the model, especially in accessing loan sources. At the same time, promote and introduce products and connect markets for sustainable development of the model.
