The first group of 109 firefighters from France arrived on June 8 and spent the weekend battling the blazes in Quebec, where nearly 14,000 people have been forced to flee their homes. The next group, 140 firefighters from Portugal and 97 from Spain, will arrive in Quebec on June 14.

According to the Canadian Interagency Fire Centre, there were 430 new wildfires burning across the country on June 11, with 210 of them out of control. Hot, dry weather is expected to cause wildfires in most Canadian provinces and territories throughout the summer.
