According to the feedback from passenger transport businesses on Bai Tu Long Bay, Ao Tien Port (Van Don District, Quang Ninh) has just come into operation but has encountered some problems in picking up and dropping off passengers. Especially for ships (under 100 passengers), there are many difficulties in picking up and dropping off passengers and loading and unloading goods.
Tourists get on and off the pier at Ao Tien port
Especially on days with low water levels, small boats have difficulty reaching the wharf, making it unsafe for tourists to travel.
Mr. Nguyen Duy D. (owner of a passenger transport company) at Ao Tien port said that small ships with less than 100 passengers operate quite a lot on the Van Don - Co To route and to Quan Lan, Minh Chau (Van Don district).
However, passengers had difficulty getting on and off as the ship's bow could not reach the pier and was about 3 meters above sea level.
In addition, the boat owners also complained that the stairs from the pier to the ship are too small, only enough for one person to get on or off. If two people are going in opposite directions, it is very difficult to avoid each other; meanwhile, all of them do not have barriers installed, so if they accidentally collide, they can fall into the sea.
Speaking to Thanh Nien , Mr. Truong Manh Hung, Secretary of Van Don District Party Committee, said that Bai Tu Long Bay in the district often has a very low tide level compared to other places, with a difference of up to 4m. Not only Ao Tien port but other ports in Van Don district also face a similar situation.
Small ships have difficulty entering Ao Tien port.
The Secretary of Van Don District Party Committee said that to overcome the above situation, the investor of Ao Tien port, Mai Quyen Tourism Company Limited, will install 4 pontoon bridges to make it easier for tourists to get on and off the boat.
"The bridges are designed as floating concrete blocks, raised and lowered according to the tide. This equipment is manufactured abroad, so the investor will complete it in a while and is expected to be finished before April 30 - May 1," said Mr. Truong Manh Hung.
Ao Tien Port officially came into operation on March 1 and currently only receives passenger ships on the Van Don - Co To route with 2 round trips/day.
Ao Tien Port started construction in April 2022, with a total investment of 610 billion VND, a scale of nearly 30 hectares, is a level 1 inland waterway port specializing in transporting tourists from Van Don to islands and tourist attractions in Bai Tu Long Bay and Ha Long Bay.
