(NLDO) - The People's Committee of Da Lat City is considering putting horse-drawn carriages into operation in some tourist areas or more suitable roads around Xuan Huong Lake.
At the March 2025 press briefing and information conference held on March 11, Mr. Nguyen Van Son, Vice Chairman of Da Lat City People's Committee, informed about the suspension of two types of tourist electric car and tourist horse-drawn carriage services.
Tourist electric cars in Da Lat City stopped operating from February 15.
According to Mr. Son, the suspension of the pilot operation of four-wheeled vehicles with electric or gasoline engines (referred to as electric tourist vehicles) along Xuan Huong Lake and some other routes is based on the direction of the Provincial People's Committee and the provisions of the Law on Road Traffic Order and Safety and the Road Law.
As for horse-drawn carriages carrying tourists, Mr. Son said that this is a typical service of Da Lat, loved by locals and tourists, so stopping this service around Xuan Huong Lake is regrettable.
However, the leaders of Da Lat City also acknowledged that horse-drawn carriages have some disadvantages when the city center has a large traffic volume while this type of vehicle runs slowly, causing traffic jams; traffic safety for tourists using the service when traveling with other types of vehicles; environmental sanitation issues arising from horse-drawn carriages; Xuan Huong Lake area is about to implement a night-time economic model.
Horse-drawn carriage tours are extended until March 31.
In addition, the horse carriage parking area on Cach Mang Thang Tam Street - next to the settling lake - has been reported by local residents for its unsanitary environment. Recently, Da Lat City agreed to postpone the suspension of operations until March 31.
Mr. Son affirmed: "Da Lat does not ban this service, it just does not operate in the Xuan Huong Lake area."
Da Lat City will coordinate with local tourist areas and spots to put this service into operation. Regarding the proposal to allow the service to operate on Ngo Tat To and Lam Vien roundabout, Mr. Son informed that the City is considering this issue to find a solution.
