Listing and monitoring fishing vessels at risk of violating foreign waters

Implementing the direction of Deputy Prime Minister Tran Luu Quang at the online conference to review the National Steering Committee on combating illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing (IUU) on the afternoon of June 17, 2024, the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee directed to review and make a list to strengthen the monitoring of fishing vessels at risk of violating foreign waters. This is one of the important tasks to drastically implement solutions to prevent fishing vessels of Binh Thuan province from violating foreign waters.

Accordingly, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development is assigned to preside over and coordinate with the Provincial Border Guard Command, the Fisheries Sub-Department and the People's Committees of coastal districts, towns and cities to urgently review and compile a list of fishing vessels in Binh Thuan province at risk of violating foreign waters. The list clearly shows the following information: Name of ship owner/captain; permanent address (specified to village/neighborhood); contact phone number; vessel registration number; occupation; area where fishing vessels regularly operate; previous violations (if any)... The completion time is to submit to the Provincial People's Committee to report to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and Deputy Prime Minister Tran Luu Quang no later than June 21, 2024.

Based on the established list, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development is assigned to preside over, together with the Provincial Border Guard Command, relevant departments, branches and People's Committees of coastal districts, towns and cities to comprehensively deploy strict monitoring solutions, resolutely not allowing fishing vessels to cross the border and violate foreign waters in the coming time, especially from now until the time the European Commission (EC) Inspection Team inspects in Vietnam. At the same time, advise the Provincial People's Committee to direct and assign responsibilities to branches and localities to strengthen supervision, monitoring, management and handling of responsibilities, if there are cases of fishing vessels violating.
