According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, in 2024, there were 14 A/H5N1 bird flu outbreaks in 9 provinces and cities nationwide, causing nearly 100,000 poultry to become sick, die and be destroyed (an increase of 2.67 times compared to the same period in 2023). Of which, there were 2 A/H5N1 bird flu outbreaks in captive wild animals (tigers, leopards) in Long An and Dong Nai provinces. Since the beginning of 2025, there have been 6 A/H5N1 bird flu outbreaks in 4 provinces of Tuyen Quang, Nghe An, Tien Giang and Long An with the number of sick, dead and forcedly destroyed poultry being over 17,245 (an increase of more than 6 times compared to the same period in 2024).

The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development recommends that localities with outbreaks of ASF that have not passed 21 days need to focus resources to promptly and thoroughly handle outbreaks, not allowing the disease to linger and spread widely; declare the disease and organize disease prevention and control in accordance with regulations; strictly handle cases of failure to report the disease, selling and slaughtering sick poultry, and dumping poultry carcasses into the environment leading to the spread of the disease. On the other hand, review and organize new vaccinations and additional vaccinations against ASF for poultry flocks, ensuring that at least 80% of the total flock is covered at the time of vaccination. Instruct poultry farmers to strictly apply biosecurity measures, proactive measures to prevent disease, and vaccinate poultry flocks against ASF.
