On October 14, the Investigation Police Agency of Kien Giang Province Police announced that it had just initiated a criminal case to investigate the act of "Obstruction or disruption of the operation of computer networks, telecommunications networks, and electronic devices".
Previously, the Working Group of the Department of Professional Affairs and Law - Coast Guard Command discovered that fishing vessel number KG-94817-TS, captained by Mr. HTP (born in 1975, residing in Vinh Thong ward, Rach Gia city), was carrying 9,140 liters of DO oil of unknown origin. The vessel was equipped with 8 devices to monitor the journey of other fishing vessels.
Verification results by the authorities showed that the 8 navigation devices above belonged to fishing vessels (registration numbers: KG-90003-TS, KG-93546-TS, KG-95562-TS, KG-94669-TS, KG-90212-TS, KG-90337-TS, KG-94978-TS, KG-93900-TS), owned by Mr. NVH (born in 1981, residing in Vinh Lac ward, Rach Gia city).
Previously, the captains of the 8 ships had removed the tracking devices and transferred them to the fishing boat KG-94817-TS, allowing the boat to sail in Vietnam’s exclusive economic zone to avoid detection by authorities. The fishing boats had removed the tracking devices and sailed in foreign waters to fish illegally.
The case is being further investigated by Kien Giang Provincial Police.
