While leaving the ship with the crew and swimming to shore when the fishing boat was in trouble, the captain unfortunately went missing.
On the morning of March 7, Ly Son Border Guard Station (Quang Ngai Border Guard Command) said that it had received initial information about the incident involving two fishing boats HT-904.09TS and HT-900.19 TS running aground and with crew members missing.
Ly Son Border Guard officers receive statements from fishermen.
At about 2:30 a.m. on March 7, Mr. Mai Xuan Quynh, 45 years old , residing in Ky Anh town, Ha Tinh province, owner and captain of fishing boat HT-904.09 TS, went to An Vinh Border Control Station (Ly Son Border Station) to report that the boat was stranded and a crew member was missing.
Accordingly, while moving to avoid the wind, at about 5:30 p.m. on March 6, at coordinates 15°22′N - 109°05'E, the fishing boat ran aground, about 200m from the shore of Ly Son island. Immediately afterwards, Captain Mai Xuan Quynh (owner of fishing boat HT-904.09 TS) contacted fishing boat HT-900.19 TS, owned and captained by Mr. Mai Xuan Mien (48 years old, residing in Ky Anh town, Ha Tinh province), to tow and rescue.
At 8:30 p.m. the same day, due to big waves, both fishing boats ran aground in the above area.
Then all crew members on both ships (8 people) left the ship and swam to shore.
At around 2:00 a.m. on March 7, the 7 crew members swam safely to shore, but Mr. Mai Xuan Mien was missing.
Military medical staff examine the health of fishermen.
It is known that fishing boat HT-90019 TS departed at 9:00 a.m. on February 22 from An Hai Border Control Station (Ly Son Border Guard Station) to fish in cage traps, with 4 crew members on board.
The leader of Ly Son Border Guard Station said that as soon as the information was received and the crew members were admitted, the Station conducted health checks.
As for one missing fisherman, the Station is currently coordinating with local authorities to search.
However, due to the bad weather, the sea in Ly Son has quite large waves, making the search for the missing victims difficult.
