TPO - Located in the Northwest of Ho Chi Minh City, Truong Chinh - Cong Hoa route plays a role in connecting traffic to the gateway area of Tan Son Nhat airport and the city center. However, over the years, these routes have gradually become overloaded, often congested during rush hour.

Stuck

Living in Tan Phu district, every day Ms. Dinh Cam Van (30 years old) has to travel through Truong Chinh and Cong Hoa streets to go to work in Phu Nhuan district. Although the distance is only about 6 km, Ms. Van has to wake up early to go to work because she is afraid of traffic jams during rush hour.

“From around 7am, this route is very crowded with people and vehicles, sometimes congested at the intersection of Truong Chinh and Cong Hoa streets. At some times, Cong Hoa Street is also often congested because of the large number of vehicles. Therefore, every morning, I have to go to work early to avoid the time when the traffic is heavy. And when I get off work in the afternoon, vehicles from the city center also cause Cong Hoa Street to be overloaded, and vehicles are often stuck in the Hoang Hoa Tham overpass area,” Ms. Van shared.

Mr. Minh Hoang (residing in Binh Chanh district) also expressed his frustration every time he had to travel on the Northwestern gateway route of Ho Chi Minh City during rush hour. According to Mr. Minh, in addition to the main routes such as Truong Chinh and Cong Hoa, some neighboring routes such as Tan Ky-Tan Quy and the intersection between this route and Truong Chinh and Au Co streets are also often congested during rush hour.

“The section of Truong Chinh Street from the intersection with Cong Hoa Street to the intersection with Au Co Street is very narrow, with a lot of traffic so it is often congested. In addition, the Tan Ky-Tan Quy Street next to it is also very narrow, every morning, vehicles move very crowded and have difficulty moving,” said Mr. Hoang.

Trillions to expand roads

To reduce traffic congestion in the area of Cong Hoa Street - the gateway to Tan Son Nhat Airport, Ho Chi Minh City is implementing a number of projects such as building a road connecting Tran Quoc Hoan Street with Cong Hoa Street (connecting Terminal T3 of Tan Son Nhat Airport). This route is expected to be completed and open to traffic by the end of February 2025.

In addition, Hoang Hoa Tham Street (from the military barracks gate to Cong Hoa Street, Tan Binh District) is also being expanded and is expected to be completed this year.

According to a representative of the Ho Chi Minh City Traffic Construction Investment Project Management Board (abbreviated as the Traffic Board), in addition to the above projects, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Transport has proposed to spend about VND 3,750 billion to expand Truong Chinh Street (from Cong Hoa Street to Au Co Street). Specifically, this approximately 765m road section will be expanded from 10-12m to 30m for 6 traffic lanes. This project is expected to start and be completed in the period of 2026 - 2030, thereby eliminating the "bottleneck" causing congestion in this area.

“In addition, the City Department of Transport is also planning to expand the remaining sections of Tan Ky-Tan Quy road. In particular, the Tan Ky Tan Quy section from Cong Hoa street to Le Trong Tan street, 636m long, will be expanded to 30m for 6 lanes with a total capital of 1,345 billion VND, expected to start and be completed in the period of 2026 - 2030…” - a representative of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Transport informed.
