Malaysia's new MH370 search contract with US-based company Ocean Infinity is expected to be finalised soon as the terms are being reviewed by Malaysia's Attorney General.
Terms of the contract to search for missing Malaysia Airlines flight MH370 are expected to be finalized in the next few days, Malaysian Transport Minister Anthony Loke said.
"We have not signed the contract yet. The contract is still with the Attorney General and the terms will be finalized in the next few days," he told KiniTV on February 19 when asked about the ship of the marine robot company Ocean Infinity en route from Mauritius to the location where flight MH370 is believed to have crashed.
Ship tracking websites list the destination of the Ocean Infinity ship "Armada 7806" as "off the coast of Australia" and the ship is expected to arrive at its destination on the afternoon of February 23.
Reports of the Armada 7806's movements in the Indian Ocean have fueled speculation that Ocean Infinity is about to begin searching for MH370, possibly even before the contract with Malaysia is signed.
This is the third search for MH370 since the Malaysia Airlines plane went missing and the second search Ocean Infinity has carried out. MH370 experts believe the missing plane is in the deep waters of the Indian Ocean, about 1,500 km west of Perth, Australia.
Australia's 9News.com reported that the latest search for MH370 will focus on a 15,000 square kilometer area, about 30 kilometers from the area that Ocean Infinity searched in 2018.
The location of the latest search for MH370 by Ocean Infinity has been determined through new analysis by three research teams since the previous search, AviationSource News reported.

Eleven years after the mysterious disappearance of Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370, a new search is about to begin in the hope of solving the world's greatest aviation mystery. There were 239 people on board the Malaysia Airlines flight that disappeared on March 8, 2014.
The new search will focus on an area 30 km away from the previous search.
"The new research was made possible by the work of British aerospace engineer Richard Godfrey. Godfrey developed a revolutionary tracking system using amateur radio waves. There is an extremely high chance that we will find MH370," Mr Thomas said.
Ocean Infinity - a US-UK company - has agreed with the Malaysian government on a new search for MH370. If MH370 is found, Ocean Infinity will be paid $70 million.
Ocean Infinity searched for MH370 in the Indian Ocean from 2017 to late 2018. In March 2024, the Texas-based company announced that it had found new scientific evidence of MH370's last known location. In early November 2024, in a separate statement to GB News, Ocean Infinity said that the company had strengthened its understanding "of the location of MH370".
Flight MH370 disappeared on March 8, 2014, while en route from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing. There were 239 people on board. Extensive international search efforts were conducted over hundreds of thousands of square kilometers.
Previous searches for MH370, including one conducted by Ocean Infinity in 2018, have failed to locate the plane.
The movement of the Armada 7806 is a strong indication that preparations for a new search are underway.
However, it is important to note that the final contract between Ocean Infinity and the Malaysian Government is still in the process of being finalized.
Further details on specific financial and operational terms are expected to be announced once the agreement is formally signed.
Experts and those interested in MH370 are speculating that Ocean Infinity may have started the search before the contract was finalized.
Aviation Source News commented that the coming weeks and months will be very important as Ocean Infinity is likely to begin a new mission to search for MH370, finding answers to one of the biggest mysteries in the history of world aviation.
