Over the years, Dak Na commune has become a popular tourist destination with its majestic natural landscapes, pristine forests, the magnificent Siu Puong waterfall, and cloud-hunting hills. Furthermore, it is also a place that preserves the invaluable cultural treasures of the Xo Dang ethnic group.
Recognizing the immense potential of experiential tourism , Ms. Y Gia Nhi, along with young people in the village, developed and designed tour packages. Ms. Nhi shared that she had the opportunity to travel abroad and learn many valuable things during that time. However, her involvement in tourism came as a complete surprise, and she has been dedicated to it for the past two years.
Ms. Y Gia Nhi (on the left) develops a unique tourism model, promoting the image of the local area.
“Although I was born, raised, and have a deep understanding of nature in Dak Na commune, I never had the idea of developing tourism models here. It wasn't until I saw the government begin developing and promoting the image of Siu Puong waterfall that I started to have the idea of designing tours to take tourists to see the local beauty,” Ms. Nhi shared.
Mr. Nguyen Thanh Thuy, Chairman of the People's Committee of Dak Na commune, said that each year, the locality welcomes more than 1,000 visitors to Siu Puong waterfall. Thanks to the tourism service model of Ms. Y Gia Nhi, the natural landscape and culture of the Xo Dang people have become known and loved by many tourists. In the near future, the commune will build a community tourism village in Le Vang hamlet to combine tours to visit Siu Puong waterfall. The involvement of young people in tourism contributes to increasing the income of the people, thereby contributing to poverty reduction in the commune.
She immediately got to work, researching online how to design tours, build promotional channels, and connect with travel companies and locals to realize her idea. Starting out as a newcomer to the profession, she accumulated experience from guiding tourists on tours.
Nhi recounted that initially she only guided tours for about 5 people, gradually increasing to 20, and now she confidently takes on groups of up to 100. Furthermore, she has partnered with about 60 Xơ Đăng ethnic people in the commune to form teams of motorbike taxi drivers, food vendors, and gong and drum ensembles to serve tourists.
With various supportive policies from the government, she and the local people developed many new activities such as picnics, camping, mountain climbing, cloud hunting , viewing precious medicinal herb gardens, and introducing the unique culture of the Xơ Đăng people. Gradually, more and more tourists came to her experiential tours, creating stable jobs for the local people.
“On average, the villagers earn 300,000 VND per person per tour. Depending on the season, they can earn an additional 1-3 million VND per month. They earn money from transporting tourists to the waterfall, serving meals, and providing entertainment… Besides providing income for the villagers, what makes me happy is being able to personally promote the beauty of tourism and the cultural identity of the locality and the Xơ Đăng people to tourists nationwide,” Ms. Nhi said.
For Ms. Nhi, tourism must stem from a sincere heart and a desire to provide unforgettable experiences for tourists. Therefore, every sightseeing location, photo opportunity, and meal arrangement is meticulously planned to ensure no tourist is disappointed. This has made her tours popular with many tour groups, who then connect with new groups to promote local tourism.
