Every Tet movie season, the Vietnamese film industry is bustling with the atmosphere of the cinema. The competition for box office revenue and the conflicting debates about current movies, viewed from a positive perspective, are a good sign for the country's film industry.

Besides the names of directors who have become box office brands such as Tran Thanh, Nguyen Quang Dung… this year’s Tet At Ty film season witnessed the debut of a film rookie, Hoang Nam – who has been creating content on the YouTube platform for 10 years. What is special is that this YouTuber’s first film really surprised when it created the most attraction in theaters and continuously led the box office revenue.
Inspired by "The Story of Nam Xuong's Daughter" in the Legend of the Strange by Nguyen Du, the director skillfully combined spiritual elements to express humanistic messages about spirituality, family affection, and ancestors. The unexpected success in revenue made the work "The Ghost Lamp" the center of debate, with many opinions of praise and criticism, mixed reviews taking place on forums.
Although not a perfect film, “The Ghost Lamp” demonstrates the creative spirit and great effort of an amateur director. Not making a film in the “instant noodle” style, the film shows meticulousness from the selection of filming locations, casting actors to investing in setting construction, then from art design, costumes to music. This success can also inspire and open up opportunities for young directors to confidently enter the profession, dare to experiment, contributing to enriching Vietnamese cinema.
Currently, Vietnam is increasingly interested in and gradually building cinema into a spearhead cultural industry - one of the important goals of the "Strategy for the development of Vietnam's cultural industries to 2020, vision to 2030". To achieve this goal, it requires the efforts of management agencies, film activists, film production and distribution enterprises, and especially the audience.

It is undeniable that the audience is the lifeblood of a film industry, although creating a formula for making a hit film is not easy, even for developed film industries in the world such as the US, China, Korea, India, etc.
In fact, many Hollywood blockbusters, with high budgets and star-studded casts, still fail miserably at the box office. Likewise, many films have won high awards at prestigious film festivals around the world, but when released commercially, audiences suddenly turn their backs on them.
In return, many independent, small and medium budget films with new actors and non-professional directors unexpectedly "made a splash" at the cinemas.
The phenomenon of the film “Den Am Hon” shows that Vietnamese audiences are becoming more impartial and have a stricter view of film quality. They go to the cinema not simply for entertainment or to be easily led by promotional tricks, but are truly interested in works with depth and artistic value.
The audience's support for new artistic creations (measured by the number of viewers, box office revenue and debate) is the motivation for filmmakers to further improve in their next projects, helping the country's film industry to grow.
