Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee - Pham Van Thieu has just issued a document directing functional units and branches to urgently implement solutions to prevent and overcome landslides on the banks of the 30/4 canal (west of the downstream of Nha Mat culvert, in Chom Xoai hamlet, Nha Mat ward, Bac Lieu city).

Accordingly, the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee assigned the People's Committee of Bac Lieu City to urgently carry out the following tasks: Organize inspection and review of landslide areas, delimit dangerous areas and take urgent measures to evacuate affected households. Arrange permanent forces in areas at high risk of landslides to warn and support people in a timely manner. Coordinate with relevant departments and branches to immediately implement temporary remedial measures (such as reinforcing canal banks with stone cages, temporary embankments, sandbags, etc.) to ensure the safety of lives and property of people in the area. Urgently develop a plan to support affected households with temporary housing, ensuring social security. Propose a long-term plan for resettlement (if any) for people in areas at high risk of landslides. Inform and propagate to people about the landslide situation and preventive measures to minimize risks.

The Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee assigned the Department of Agriculture and Environment to preside over and coordinate with relevant units to assess the cause and impact of the landslide. Propose structural and non-structural solutions to handle the situation of canal bank erosion. Guide local authorities to implement long-term measures to protect canal banks, limiting the risk of landslide recurrence. Propose investment projects to build embankments to protect canal banks in key areas with high risks. For the Department of Construction to inspect and assess the impact of the landslide on riverside traffic infrastructure, propose appropriate solutions. Direct relevant units to implement measures to limit the load on vehicles passing through areas at risk of landslides. Coordinate and support departments, branches and localities when requested in the process of handling landslides.
