Max McFarlin (from Arkansas, USA) is a famous blogger in the world travel community with a Youtube channel reaching nearly 600,000 followers.
On his personal channel, Max regularly shares videos about his travel experiences, especially enjoying street food in many countries, including Vietnam.
Most recently, on his return to Hanoi in early June, Max and his familiar companion Chris Lewis went to a vermicelli soup restaurant on Lac Trung Street (Hai Ba Trung District).
This is a familiar dining address not only for Hanoians but also for many Westerners, including Max and Chris. Chris even came to the restaurant a few times just because he loved the taste of the noodles here so much.
The young man also revealed that this vermicelli soup restaurant is so famous that it has received more than 600 comments on Google with a rating of 4.5/5 - a dream number for any restaurant.
The restaurant currently serves many noodle dishes such as mixed noodles, Southern beef noodles, Hai Phong crab rice noodles, etc., but the most popular and loved by diners is still crab noodle soup.
Max and Chris arrived at the restaurant just before noon, but it was almost full. The two boys struggled to find a seat, surrounded by many other customers waiting to be served.
To fully enjoy the flavor, Max and Chris showed that they were as “gourmets” as the locals when they ordered a full serving with shrimp paste. For Max, shrimp paste is a condiment he loves very much, although not all foreign visitors dare to try it when coming to Vietnam.
They even ordered their signature drink, iced tea, and were surprised to find that each cup cost only VND3,000. "Iced tea is a delicious drink, not bitter, and affordable. In other shops, iced tea is usually sold for VND5,000 per cup, but here it's cheaper," Chris compared.
The Western guest also revealed that another plus point of the restaurant that he highly appreciated was the enthusiastic and quick service attitude. Although the restaurant was very crowded, customers did not have to wait long because each employee here was in charge of a step and operated very professionally.
According to the listed price list, a full bowl of crab noodle soup here costs 35,000 VND. "I can't believe a big bowl with crab noodle soup, fried tofu, and pig's ear is only 35,000 VND," Max commented.
He also could not hide his excitement, quickly tasted the first spoonful of broth and continuously exclaimed that it was delicious.
The blogger is also fascinated with the chili dish and thinks that the restaurant owner should produce this chili dish for sale. He is sure that many people will want to buy the handmade chili dish here as gifts for family, friends and relatives.
After tasting the broth, Max slowly enjoyed the whole bowl of noodles. He rated the taste of the crab noodle soup here as “perfect”, the fried onions were fragrant, the ingredients were rich but not greasy.
“This is truly the best vermicelli soup restaurant in Hanoi. Next time I have a chance to come here, I will definitely stop by again,” Max affirmed.
At the end of the meal, Max and Chris paid 76,000 VND, including 2 full bowls of crab noodle soup for 70,000 VND and 2 glasses of iced tea for 6,000 VND. Both were satisfied with the quality of the food, and even introduced more people to try it.
