Spanish golfer Jon Rahm initially committed to playing but has just announced his withdrawal from the TGL - the all-star tournament system on the PGA Tour scheduled to compete from the beginning of 2024.
Rahm promised to compete since TGL was still a preliminary project, at the end of November 2022. However, on November 2 this year, he announced on X : "I am sad to confirm that I will not participate in the inaugural TGL season. I wish everyone involved good luck and success."
The TGL website later removed Rahm from the list of competitors. The tournament’s parent company, TMRW Sports, also issued a separate statement about the 28-year-old Spaniard’s withdrawal. However, they only stated that he was withdrawing for personal reasons.

TGL was born after Woods and Rory McIlroy co-founded TMRW Sports. The company became a partner of the PGA Tour shortly after its launch in August 2022. On October 31, TMRW Sports announced that it would operate TGL from 2024, with the opening match on January 9. The first season of TGL featured six round-robin teams, a total of 24 PGA Tour golfers, including Woods and McIlroy.
TGL currently names five teams after American cities: Atlanta, Boston, Los Angeles, New York, and San Francisco. The backing for these teams is all from billionaires or stars in American sports, including the Williams sisters.
Rahm's departure from TGL has further fueled speculation in the golf world that he is preparing to move to the LIV Golf League, owned by the Saudi Public Investment Fund (PIF). Rahm last publicly denied the possibility in August. At that time, on the "Golf Sin Etiquetas" podcast, he said: "I couldn't help but laugh when people said I was going to LIV Golf. I never liked the format of the tournament there."
On the PGA Tour, Rahm is ranked A thanks to winning nine cups and two majors – the 2021 US Open, the 2023 Masters. He has accumulated 52 weeks as the number one male professional golfer in the world (OWGR), this week he is ranked third.
