According to Macrumors , a source from The Elec said that all four versions of the iPhone 17 will use LTPO OLED display panels. This means that the standard iPhone 17 duo will also be equipped with 120Hz ProMotion screen technology and Always-on Display (always-on screen), similar to the Pro version.
Currently, the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus use low-temperature polycrystalline silicon (LTPS) panels, while the iPhone 15 Pro models use more advanced polycrystalline oxide (LTPO) panels.
The LTPO panel supports ProMotion, allowing the display to increase refresh rates up to 120Hz for smoother scrolling and viewing of video content when needed.
ProMotion also allows the display to drop to a power-saving refresh rate of 1Hz, allowing the iPhone 15 Pro display to show the clock, widgets, notifications, and lock screen wallpaper even when the device is locked.
Apple is expected to continue using less advanced LTPS panels for this year's iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus to maintain the distinction between the standard and "Pro" models. This means that Apple's 2025 iPhone lineup will for the first time feature ProMotion and always-on displays on both the regular and high-end versions.
According to The Elec , Chinese display maker BOE is hoping to secure a deal to supply LTPO panels for the iPhone 17 series. But BOE is skeptical about the production capacity needed while maintaining Apple's strict quality standards.
If BOE cannot meet the requirements, Apple will likely turn to other suppliers such as Samsung and LG Display for LTPO panels. In that case, BOE will only produce LTPS panels for older iPhone models and the iPhone SE 4.
More reasons to wait for iPhone 17
According to display analyst Ross Young, this year's iPhone 16 Pro models will have a larger aspect ratio of 19.6:9.
Along with that, the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max screens are expected to increase in size from 6.12 and 6.69 inches to 6.27 and 6.86 inches respectively, a 2.5% increase on both devices.
This size change on the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max will likely be applied to the standard iPhone 17 models next year.

In addition to the screen upgrade, the iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Plus will have many other attractive features, making this duo worth the wait for iPhone fans.
TF International Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said that the iPhone 17 will be equipped with a 24MP selfie camera. This information was revealed in an article by Mr. Kuo on Medium. For comparison, the current iPhone 15 only has a 12MP front camera with a 5-component structure, and the iPhone 16 series is also expected to have no breakthrough in the selfie camera.
However, with the iPhone 17, Apple may upgrade the selfie camera to 24MP with a 6-element lens. Mr. Kuo said this upgrade will significantly improve the image quality of the front camera, giving more detailed and sharper photos. The quality of selfie photos will be maintained even when cropped or zoomed in.
